The Libertarian Party will hold its first-ever Louisiana primary next month, when Anthony "Tony G" Gentile faces Randall Todd Hayes in the race for the U.S. Senate. It also will be the last one unless lawmakers change their minds on how federal elections should be held in the state....

T. Lee Horne, chairman of the state Libertarian Party, said he was caught by surprise when two Libertarians qualified for the Senate seat now held by David Vitter, R-La. He said the party endorsed Gentile, who has run unsuccessfully for governor and other positions before. He said Hayes, who was instrumental in getting Ron Paul on the presidential ballot in Louisiana in 2008, was a surprise, last-minute entrant Friday.
