The Governor of Oklahoma signed bill SB 896 on May 5, which lowered the vote threshold for a party to retain ballot access from 10% for the party’s top-of-the-ticket candidate to 2.5%.
This bill takes effect immediately, so if the 2016 Libertarian Party presidential nominee receives at least 2.5% this November, the Oklahoma LP will retain political party status for the first time in its history.
This is also the first time since 2000 that the Oklahoma LP has been a recognized party in the state, as well as the first time in 16 years that a Presidential nominee from a party other than the Democrats or Republicans will appear on the ballot.
