“Donald Trump’s new status as the presumptive Republican nominee has some ‘Never Trump’ conservatives calling for a new third-party candidate, but Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson says they should consider him as their alternative instead.”

Daily Caller: LP membership has skyrocketed in the last year

2016 State Conventions

Below is a schedule of Libertarian state conventions in 2016. Click on the state to get more information. Not all states have conventions every year. Many states have not scheduled their conventions yet. Updates will be posted as they become available.

Arkansas held a state convention in 2015 to comply with Arkansas election code.

North Dakota held a state convention in 2015 and is not planning one for 2016.

Oklahoma Governor signs ballot access bill

ImageThe Governor of Oklahoma signed bill SB 896 on May 5, which lowered the vote threshold for a party to retain ballot access from 10% for the party's top-of-the-ticket candidate to 2.5%.

This bill takes effect immediately, so if the 2016 Libertarian Party presidential nominee receives at least 2.5% this November, the Oklahoma LP will retain political party status for the first time in its history.

Reason: Google searches for "Libertarian Party" surge after Ted Cruz drops out

From Reason Magazine online on May 4:

"Donald Trump crushed it in the Indiana GOP primary last night, winning more than 50 percent of the vote and causing Ted Cruz to drop out. Although John Kasich is still in the race, he has only won one state so far while Trump is less than 200 delegates from securing the nomination.

"That led to a surge tonight in searches for "Libertarian Party," as this chart [click on the link below to view] from Google Trends showing searches for "Libertarian Party" over the last 24 hour period."

LNC chair debate Wednesday evening

ImageThere will be a debate tonight, Wednesday, May 4, among the candidates running for chair of the Libertarian National Committee.

The debate is being hosted by the 1787 Network and Liberty Underground show, and will take place from 9 pm to 11 pm ET. This will be done over Google Hangouts and stream live on the 1787 Network YouTube channel.

Austin Petersen interviewed by CBS radio affiliate in Philadelphia
