On May 12, 2012, a Fox News commentary by said:

Long-time LP Petitioner and Activist John Robertson Dies

John Robertson, who was best known for his petitioning work over many years in the Libertarian Party, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at his son’s home near Point Arena, California.  He was in his seventies.  Word of John’s passing came from LP Oklahoma member Robert Murphy, who was about to travel to a party with John on Saturday afternoon, when John suddenly collapsed.  He was taken by helicopter to a hospital but died enroute.

The Gary Johnson for President campaign released the following statements this week:

May 10, 2012, New York, NY – Libertarian nominee for President and former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson today said he’s “disappointed” with President Obama’s position on gay marriage. Obama told ABC Wednesday he would let each individual state decide the gay marriage question instead of seeking federal protection of the right to marry. Johnson noted that more than 30 states already ban same sex marriage in one way or another.

Libertarian Solutions Video Contest WINNER: Elizabeth Brierly

Elizabeth Brierly of San Jose, California is the WINNER of the 2012 Libertarian Nominating Convention Video Contest.  She won 28% of the vote for her video on Your Right of Self Defense. Ms. Brierly wins the $500 cash prize!

Stewart Flood of South Carolina came in Second Place with his short, to-the-point video Why Vote Libertarian.

Geoffrey Neale elected Chairman of National Libertarian Party; Lee Wrights Vice Chairman

Today Geoffrey Neale of Texas was elected Chairman for the National Libertarian Party at its nominating convention in Las Vegas.

Geoff Neale, a software architect, also served as Chairman for the party from 2002 to 2004. He served five terms on the Libertarian National Committee and is a former Chairman for the Libertarian Party of Texas.

LP Chair: Not Pro-Life or Pro-Choice but Individual Choice

WASHINGTON - In response to the abortion restrictions signed into law in Arizona this month, Libertarian Party Chair, Mark Hinkle, issued the following statement:

“Like so many others, Libertarians wrestle with the moral issues associated with abortion.  While our party includes a significant number of people who describe themselves as pro-choice, nearly as many members describe themselves as pro-life.  In my own view, however, there is no conflict: the best way to respect life is to prevent government from interfering with individual rights.
