Re: please help us with ballot access

Dear Libertarian,

Our petitioners in Arkansas have made great progress since I wrote to you on 3/27/2015. They've collected 8,972 raw signatures as of last week. We plan to spend $25,000 on this important petition drive.

We just mailed a letter in a yellow envelope asking for donations to help support this effort. If you received the letter, please send us back a donation right away. Ballot access is a crucial task, and we need your support.

LNC chair interview: Controversial Patriot Act ‘Harmful’ to US Security

ImageNicholas Sarwark, chair of the Libertarian National Committee, said in an interview with Sputnik International that the US intelligence program "violates the rights of every American and does not make anyone any safer in the process."

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The US Patriot Act, including the controversial Section 215 allowing mass surveillance on US citizens, is detrimental to the country's security, a US politician told Sputnik Wednesday.

Robert Sarvis on debate exclusion

From the second of a 4-part series in Collegiate Times by Libertarian Rob Sarvis, who ran for US Senate in 2014 and for governor in 2012:

"So why does debate exclusion matter if I had such a small chance of winning anyway?"

"First off, my chances of winning would have been a lot higher if I had had been included in the debates. But more importantly, the voters benefit when a debate or forum goes beyond the carefully scripted nonsense of Republican and Democrat campaigns."

Rob Sarvis contrasts running with the old parties versus as a Libertarian in Collegiate Times

"Up until a few years ago, I was as disdainful of third parties as most people are. When I first ran for office in 2011, I didn’t even consider running outside the two major parties, even though I had plenty of complaints about each.

"So how did I end up running as a statewide candidate for a third party just a couple years later?"

Bills in AL and OK to lower signature amounts to be voted on this week

Bills to lower the amount of signatures needed to become a recognized party in Alabama and Oklahoma, two of the most difficult states for ballot access, will be voted on this week.

In Alabama, SB 211 would cut the amount of required signatures in half, from 3% of the last general election's gubernatorial vote to 1.5%. This would lower the amount of signatures needed to become a party from 35,413 to 17,707.
