Dear Friend of Liberty,

The Indianapolis Star reported on the May 14 nomination of 16 candidates by the Libertarian Party of Marion County for Indianapolis City-County Council. Read the article.

Among the candidates is incumbent Ed Coleman, who currently serves on the City-County Council as a Libertarian.

LP Headquarters is putting together a series of short videos addressing issues. Below are two of them:

LP Monday Message: Take Afghanistan withdrawal poll

May 9, 2011

Dear Friend of Liberty,

We just started a new poll on LP.org. Please take the poll.

Here's what it says:

After hearing the news that Osama bin Laden was killed, what are your feelings about the War in Afghanistan?

Reason Foundation poll

The Reason Foundation and Arthur N. Rupe Foundation recently collaborated on a public opinion poll. According to its website, the Reason Foundation "advances a free society by developing, applying, and promoting libertarian principles, including individual liberty, free markets, and the rule of law."

Here are a few of the poll results that may be of interest to Libertarians:

LP Monday Message: Burnout

May 2, 2011

Dear Friend of Liberty,

Last Saturday I spoke at the LP Minnesota state convention. I enjoyed my time at the convention, and I'd like to thank them for hosting me.

Below are two questions I was asked after my speech, along with my responses. (The questions and my responses are not verbatim, and may be embellished with a few phrases I wish I had thought of at the time!)

Question 1: Is burnout a problem when Libertarians continually receive single-digit percentages?

LP Monday Message: 20 Obama problems, 20 Libertarian solutions

April 25, 2011

Dear Friend of Liberty,

We're a little over halfway through President Obama's term, and I wanted to send a reminder of the "top ten disasters" from his first year, plus ten newer problems, and how Libertarians would avoid or solve these problems.

LNC members see Atlas Shrugged movie

Atlas Shrugged, the movie, was released last Friday, April 15. A group of LNC members and staff went to see the opening of the movie last Friday in Washington, D.C.

The response seemed fairly positive. LNC Chairman Mark Hinkle had previously made the following comments after seeing an early screening of the film:

LP Monday Message: Tax Day Condolences

April 18, 2011

Dear Friend of Liberty,

Today is Tax Day.

Rather than procrastinate by filing my taxes at the last minute, I filed for my extension several days ago.

I find the whole process of tracking, organizing and reporting tax information to be such an unpleasant task. It's not just the labor that goes into it, but the knowledge that the government uses financial levers to manipulate my behavior and complicate my life, as well as take my resources and squander them on wars and government programs that should not exist.

Video of Libertarians in northeast Texas

John Jay Myers, the new Membership Director of the Texas LP, traveled to northeast Texas on April 11 and talked to some Libertarian activists. He made this video:

LP Monday Message: Candidates and elected Libertarians

April 11, 2011

Dear Friend of Liberty,

Since the beginning of March, we've had eight Libertarians elected or re-elected to office.

Two of the most prominent winners were Andrew Gray, who was just elected to the city council of Topeka, Kansas, and Doug Burlison, who was just re-elected to the city council of Springfield, Missouri.

See our entire list here. If you know of a Libertarian serving in elected office who is not listed, please let us know.
