Maryland court rules in favor of Libertarians

On June 21, a Maryland judge ruled that the Libertarian Party had submitted enough petition signatures to gain ballot access in Maryland. The state Board of Elections had previously determined that there were not enough signatures. The main issue was whether to count voters who wrote a printed name that did not perfectly match their voter registration. Read more in the Baltimore Sun.

LP Monday Message: Debt limit, videos

June 20, 2011

Dear Friend of Liberty,

I just noticed this article from the Cato Institute, talking about how Republicans and Democrats are likely to use accounting tricks to pretend they're cutting spending, when they really aren't. Republicans want to give themselves some cover before they vote for more debt.

LP Monday Message: Edwards, Weiner & Schwarzenegger

June 6, 2011

Dear Friend of Liberty,

John Edwards was the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2004, and he was a leading contender for the presidential nomination in 2008. We all now know he cheated on his wife and lied to America about it throughout much of that time. Now he's facing potential jail time if convicted of using campaign funds for a cover-up.

Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner has put on quite a show lately.

LP Monday Message: Memorial Day and Harry Browne

The following is from LNC member Dr. James Lark:

George Schwappach passed away in early May. I have lost a friend and colleague, the Advocates has lost one of our "founding fathers," and the liberty movement has lost a great champion.

Join "Why We Left the Left"

The following is from Utah Libertarian activist Tom Garrison.

My name is Tom Garrison. I am putting together a book tentatively titled Why We Left the Left. I am looking to enlist folks who publicly identified with the left/liberalism at one point in their lives and have since evolved into libertarians. In an era wherein political divisions have hardened, it is instructive (and interesting) to read the stories of those who abandoned the left/liberalism and turned to the “free minds and free markets” of libertarianism.
