LP Monday Message: S&P downgrade

August 8, 2011

Dear Friend of Liberty,

I'm sure you have heard the news about the Standard & Poor's downgrade of the U.S. government's credit rating.

I'm not a finance expert, so I don't know exactly how important the downgrade itself is. I think it's one more sign of what Libertarians have known for a long time: the Democrats and Republicans have created a giant welfare-warfare state that is beginning to collapse under its own weight. And I see no sign that they are going to change their behavior.

Texas LP Chair visits Argentina Libertarians

from the Texas LP:

During a visit to Buenos Aires on a concert tour, Libertarian Party of Texas (LPT) state chair Pat Dixon met with the recently established Partido Liberal Libertario (PL, www.partidoliberal.org.ar). Dixon discussed experiences he has had as a local and state leader of the Libertarian Party, a national committee member, and a twice elected candidate for local office.

Libertarian William Barker runs for Phoenix City Council

The Arizona Republic reports on Libertarian William Barker's campaign for Phoenix City Council:

If elected, Barker plans to push for repeal of the 2 percent food tax, which took effect April 2010 and is to expire in 2015. The food tax, estimated to generate $50 million in annual revenue for the city, was adopted when the city faced a general-fund budget shortfall of more than $270 million for the 2010-11 fiscal year.

New York Libertarian calls for sale of Coliseum site

from the New York LP:

8/2/11

WESTBURY -- New York Libertarian Party leader Richard Cooper organized Coliseum bond issue opponents with his Stop Nassau Coliseum Funding website www.stopnassaucoliseumfunding.wordpress.com, distributing flyers around Nassau County dubbing the proposal as Coliseumscam.

Welcoming their victory, Cooper issued a call for sale of the entire Coliseum site's 77 acres to the highest bidder, with no requirement that a sports facility be kept there.

Coverage of Florida Libertarian TSA protest

The Daytona Beach News-Journal covers the protest outside the Florida Sheriffs convention, organized by the Florida Libertarian Party. The protesters are asking Florida sheriffs to enforce Florida's sexual molestation laws against groping TSA agents.

LP Monday Message: Debt Ceiling Video

August 1, 2011

Dear Friend of Liberty,

We've released several videos over the past few weeks on our blog.

Libertarian Party does well on NC tax checkoffs

from Ballot Access News:

North Carolina, and eleven other states, lets state income tax filers choose a political party that they wish to help. North Carolina taxpayers can choose to send $3 to the ballot-qualified party of their choice, by checking a box on the form.

Please donate for ballot access

Dear Friend of Liberty,

Will you donate to help fund ballot access petition drives in New Hampshire and South Dakota?

We're starting these petition drives for full party access early so we can get them out of the way efficiently before the frantic peak period in 2012. Most states don't allow us to start this early.

LP Monday Message: Candidates should get involved now

July 25, 2011

Dear Friend of Liberty,

Are you thinking about running for office in 2012?

I hope so. I also hope you will get involved with your local Libertarian Party affiliate right now so you will get to know other Libertarians in your area, and so that they can get to know you too.

Each year we have some people file to run for office as Libertarians who report they didn't get as much help from the party as they had hoped for. You are more likely to get support if you have already participated with the party.
