Lady Liberty was dedicated at a ceremony presided over by President Grover Cleveland 125 years ago today after New York's first ever ticker-tape parade.
 
She sits in a harbor approximately five miles from me and has welcomed millions and millions of immigrants to our shores since 1886.
 

Ed Thompson, noted Wisconsin Libertarian, passes away

Ed ThompsonWe have received news that Ed Thompson, a noted Wisconsin Libertarian, died of pancreatic cancer today at the age of 66.

Ed Thompson was the 2002 Libertarian Party candidate for Wisconsin Governor, receiving 11% of the vote. He also served as Mayor of Tomah, Wisconsin, and later ran for office as a Republican. Ed's brother, Tommy Thompson, a Republican, was 42nd Governor of Wisconsin and a current candidate for U.S. Senate.

The Tea Party's Over fundraising letter

"Many people give Libertarians, along with Congressman Ron Paul, credit for starting the Tea Party movement. I believe the first modern Tea Party was in Austin, Texas on December 16, 2007. I was there."

That's in the opening of a recent fundraising letter the Libertarian Party sent to our donors. That letter generated a lot of feedback--some of it positive, some negative.

The organizers of FreedomFest have extended the Early Bird registration discount until May 1, 2011 for Libertarian Party members. With the discount, registration is $395 per person and $595 per couple.
