Rob Oates was elected to the City Council, Seat 4, for Caldwell, Idaho. Caldwell is a native, fourth generation Idahoan who graduated from the University of Idaho. He served for almost 10 years in the Army after graduating at the top of his ROTC class. He became an Army Aviator and served various places stateside and in the Republic of Korea. After military service he worked in satellite communications for 8 years. The past 10 years he has been involved in computer education and web application development. He was also the past president for the Caldwell High Band Boosters and is a NRA Life Member and a Lifelong Student of Liberty.
Rob Oates was elected to the Caldwell City Council in November 2003. Rob is native Idahoan, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business Management from the University of Idaho in 1978. At graduation Rob was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army and served as a tank officer and helicopter weapons test pilot and project engineer for the next ten years, leaving the service as a Major. After working in technology jobs in several cities in the East, Rob moved his family to Caldwell in 1997. He was a senior systems analyst for Sears in the Boise Technology Center for five years and has been a contract technical trainer and web application developer.
Rob has been involved in the community serving several terms as President of the Caldwell Band Boosters. He was the Data Manager for the Idaho Women's Fitness Celebration for six years and an Elder in Caldwell's Boone Memorial Presbyterian Church. Rob is also the State Chair for the Libertarian Party of Idaho.
His civic interests include successful downtown revitalization, transit solutions with no new taxes, and freedom from unnecessary government for Caldwell's citizens. He also serves on the Airport Commission, the Library Board, and the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council.
