A Post-Election Message From the National Chairman

As I recover from Election Day and my US Senate campaign that preceded it, it is time to take stock of where the Libertarian Party stands and what we accomplished in the election season just passed.

While I know that we are disappointed that more of our candidates did not win, and that the Barr/Root presidential ticket and our other candidates did not win as many votes as most of us thought they would get, there is much that we gained in 2008 and a lot to be proud of for the Libertarian Party.

Libertarian Party Mourns Loss of Libertarian Leader Marshall Fritz

The Libertarian Party wishes to express its condolences to the friends and family of Libertarian activist Marshall Fritz, who passed away on Nov. 4 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

"When I think of Marshall Fritz, I immediately think of other people, because I met so many other Libertarians through Marshall, including Karl Hess and Dr. Jim Lark, at the Advocates Summit '86 in Bethesda, Maryland," says Libertarian Party National Chairman William Redpath. "That summit helped charge me up in the genesis of my becoming involved in the Libertarian Party."

At Last, an Investigation

Sub-Title:

by Libertarian Party Presidential Nominee Bob Barr

Federal authorities have announced that they are opening an investigation into the collapse of Washington Mutual, the largest bank failure in America. This step is long overdue, and should be the start of a much broader investigation of potential criminal behavior throughout the financial system.

I have been calling for such an investigation since the financial crisis broke publicly. It is heartening to see at least two U.S. Attorneys, as well as the Attorney General of New York, take their responsibilities seriously.

McCain-Palin: Against Energy Independence Before They Were For It, Says Bob Barr

“With the campaign moving towards its close, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin gave a speech denouncing America’s dependence on foreign oil.  She also criticized the consequences ‘when foreign powers control our energy supplies,’ observes Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president.  “Yet Gov. Palin backs the export of Alaskan liquefied natural gas to Asia.  That makes sense in an international market, but not when one’s official goal is energy independence.”

The Liberal Case for Bob Barr and the Libertarian Party

Barack Obama is going to win the presidency. While the end of the current era of Republican mismanagement may be good news in many respects, this is no cause for complacency for anyone concerned about American liberty and America's place in the world. Senator Obama, despite his eloquent call for reform, has demonstrated that he, like other politicians, is ever ready to trim his sails to gain a few votes. A vote for Bob Barr and the Libertarian Party would be the best way to tell President-elect Obama that the American people are serious about real change in Washington.
