About the Candidate
Yvonne was born in Blanco, Texas and grew up in San Antonio. She graduated with honors, fourth in her class, at McCollum High School in San Antonio in 1966.
Though she had a full scholarship to the prestigious Rice University, the whims of youth took her into the business world early. Using her intelligence and hard work, Yvonne quickly rose in the burgeoning computer industry until she was a Region Manager with a major software company managing offices in Houston and Dallas, 24 staff, and a region including 8 states.
Yvonne began working with her husband in real estate management while gaining a reputation in sales training and consulting with entrepreneurs and small practice professionals. In the mid-1980's, Yvonne joined her husband, Ken, in the company he founded which became a major player in the emerging assisted living industry. Yvonne played a major role in the strategic planning and management that built the organization until it was purchased by an international publicly-held company and expanded to 25 communities in 8 states with more than 1,000 employees.
After a brief excursion living out of the state, Yvonne and Ken return to their beloved Texas Hill Country in 2004, and continue with real estate related projects and investments. They have been married 33 years.
In the mid 90's, Yvonne organized a large, effective chapter of Citizens for an Alternative Tax System (CATS) in Houston. CATS was a grassroots group dedicated to replacing the federal income tax with a national retail sales tax. It was the predecessor group to the FairTax organization. Yvonne served on the national board of directors for CATS and lobbied in Washington for tax reform.
