Why Independents Should Consider Voting Libertarian This Year
A recent CNN poll suggests that a majority of Americans believe in the principles of small government:
Queried about their views on the role of government, 54 percent of the 1,013 adults polled said they thought it was trying to do too many things that should be left to individuals and businesses. Only 37 percent said they thought the government should do more to solve the country's problems.
In a 2005 NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll, 54 percent of Americans thought the federal government should be less active when it comes to social and moral issues facing the country.
While the numbers vary based on the date of the survey and exact wording used, a majority of Americans feel that our Iraq policy isn’t working and that we should send our troops home as soon as reasonably possible.
Unfortunately, neither the Republican Party nor the Democratic Party represent the values of most Americans. Fortunately, Libertarian candidates across the country are running on campaigns of smaller government, fiscal responsibility, social tolerance and getting out of the quagmire in Iraq.
Republicans are supposed to be the party of financial responsibility, but under their watch, we are spending more money than ever before. Earmark and pork barrel spending is at an all-time high, and so are charges of political corruption.
It’s understandable that a lot of people are going to hold their nose and vote Democrat this election cycle. To be sure, to lose our votes is a message the Republicans deserve to hear very loudly. However, voting for Democrats is not all that palatable in most cases, either.
Democrats have squandered the inheritances of our children and grandchildren. Republicans have squandered the inheritances of our children and grandchildren. There has got to be a better solution.
Libertarians provide a way for you to send a loud message to the GOP, while casting a vote that will also help keep government smaller and more responsible.
The Libertarian Party is fielding candidates across the country with values very similar to yours. It’s time that your voice was represented in the halls of government, and the way to make that happen is to vote Libertarian.
It’s time to end the corruption in DC. Libertarian candidates aren’t beholden to special interest groups. Libertarian special interest groups are our constituents and our consciences.
Most politicians, of either major party, don’t represent the values that you find important. Libertarians welcome the opportunity to open our doors for you. You can send a strong message to both political parties by voting for one, or more, Libertarians on Election Day.
After you’ve taken that step, we encourage you to consider becoming involved with the Libertarian Party. If you believe in smaller government, fiscal responsibility, social tolerance and common sense foreign policy, we’ll hold the door wide open for you.
