"Show Me Privatization of Social Security!" say Libertarians in
Missouri, the "Show Me" state. And to take the first step in that direction,
party leaders passed a resolution on November 24th, urging the state
legislature to consider the New Oregon Option.
That plan allows residents to opt out of Social Security and
invest in private retirement accounts instead.
Noting Social Security's bleak financial future, Libertarian Brad
Spangler promised to introduce a privatization plan if elected to the Missouri
House.
"It's time
for Social Security to go the way of federal welfare programs. If states can
opt out, Congress will have the incentive to privatize the system nationwide,"
he said.
