Libertarians declaring "I am not a government number" are trying to
repeal a new law requiring Social Security numbers on all types of state
licenses.
"It matters little whether your state requires the Social
Security number to be on the face of the license or is just recorded on the
application, the invasion of privacy is the same," said State Chair
Rodney Travis.
The South Carolina Executive Committee passed a resolution on March 7
demanding the repeal of the law, which was signed by the governor last June.
It forces South Carolinians to divulge their SSN in order to receive a
drivers, marriage, recreational, or occupational license.
Now, Libertarians are mounting a petition drive to build public
support.
