Libertarians are savoring a victory after their "arduous" struggle
finally paid off: The Virginia legislature passed bills to dramatically reduce
the number of signatures that third parties need to get on the ballot.
The requirement of 17,000 signatures for statewide candidates has been
slashed to about 10,000, thanks to lobbying by LP members.
Libertarians had waged a nine-month campaign to build support for the
bills, writing letters and making phone calls to line up sponsors.
"We were hoping for 5,000, but it's still a major improvement," said
LP spokesman Robert Snapp.
