LP Monday Message: Happy Holidays - May You Enjoy Religious Freedom

December 21, 2009

Dear Friend of Liberty,

It's the time of year when we see "Happy Holidays!" everywhere. I know some people don't like that phrase, but I think it indicates the variety of religious practices we have in America, which in turn shows that we enjoy significant freedom of religion.

Politico asks Wes Benedict about Gary Johnson

The political news site Politico.com suggests that "Gary Johnson emerges as the next Ron Paul." Johnson is a former New Mexico governor.

The story quotes LP Executive Director Wes Benedict:

What seems clear is that for now Johnson has no plan to leave the GOP. He resisted a draft effort from the Libertarian Party leading up to the 2000 presidential race and now, while noting his disillusionment with the party’s fiscal record during the Bush years, says: “I am still a Republican.”

TV coverage of Libertarian debate battle in Massachusetts

In the campaign for the special election to replace the late Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy, Libertarian candidate Joe Kennedy is making waves. (Joe Kennedy is not related to Edward Kennedy, and will appear on the ballot as an independent.)

The Democratic candidate wants Kennedy included in all debates -- the Republican candidate seems to be dancing around the issue.

LP Monday Message: Happy Bill of Rights Day!

December 14, 2009

Dear Friend of Liberty,

Tomorrow, December 15, is Bill of Rights Day. I don't know how much we'll hear about it in the media, but you and I know how important the Bill of Rights is. The Founders recognized that it was important to be specific about what government must not do.

The Libertarian Party platform expresses support for the Bill of Rights in many places. For example:

Massachusetts Democrat wants Libertarian Joe Kennedy in debates

Kennedy will officially appear as an independent on the ballot. He is not related to the late Senator Edward Kennedy. The special election will be held on January 19, 2010.

The Boston Globe recently reported on Coakley's statements.
