LP Monday Message: Libertarians want to end, not escalate, war in Afghanistan

September 21, 2009

Dear Friend of Liberty,

You may have heard today's prominent news stories about President Obama's military commander in Afghanistan, Stanley McChrystal, and his request to greatly increase the presence of U.S. armed forces there.

The Libertarian Party opposes this plan. We want to end the war, not escalate it.

In September 2008, the Libertarian National Committee adopted this resolution:

Libertarian Party quoted in product safety article

Excerpt from a Sep. 18 Foxnews.com article:

"It's absurd when nanny-state bureaucrats want to regulate things we buy at mom-and-pop shops or second-hand stores," Wes Benedict, executive director of the Libertarian National Committee, told FOXNews.com. Excerpt from the Brownsville Herald:

Several other political parties exist, although most of them are single-issue groups like the Green Party, America First Party and the U.S. Marijuana Party.

Some, however, do offer comprehensive philosophies that can be applied to all aspects of life and government.

Illinois LP says voters should pick university board

From the Illinois LP:

A recent in-depth investigation by the Chicago Tribune revealed that over 800 undergraduate admissions applications to the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana (”U of I”) received preferential treatment, as well as did dozens of graduate and law school applicants. The investigation also revealed that contacts of several politicians, generous donors and university trustees received preferential treatment in admissions.

Elected Libertarian leads repeal of anti-homosexual law in Missouri

From Doug Burlison, Libertarian city councilmember in Springfield, Missouri:

On September 8, at my urging, our City Council (of which I am a member) repealed a local ordinance that prohibited homosexuals from "soliciting" each other. In other words, it was O.K. to put the "heterosexual moves" on a member of the opposite sex, but if you're gay, any talk about sex could've invited punitive measures...until now.

LP Monday Message: Libertarians march in 9/12 protest

September 14, 2009

Dear Friend of Liberty,

Several LP headquarters interns and staffers marched in the big 9/12 DC protest on Saturday. We carried a sign pointing out that Republicans are to blame for oversized government, not just Democrats. Take a look at our blog post.
