Libertarians: Obama health care rationing plan makes America sick

Sub-Title:

Government control of health care leads to higher death rates, research finds

WASHINGTON -- America’s third largest party Tuesday blasted comments by White House chief economic advisor Lawrence Summers that Americans are getting too much health care and the government should begin rationing access to medical procedures.

“Decisions on medical care should be made by patient and his or her doctor, not by a government employee with a calculator figuring out whether treating your illness is in Washington’s fiscal interest,” said Donny Ferguson, Libertarian National Committee Communications Director.

N.C. Appeals Panel Hears Libertarians

RALEIGH, N.C. -- A State Court of Appeals panel on Monday heard oral arguments in the Libertarian Party of North Carolina's legal challenge to the state's election laws Monday. The panel included Chief Judge John C. Martin and Judges Sanford L. Steelman and Ann Maria Calabria.

Ken Soo, representing the Libertarian Party, argued that the state's ballot access laws violate guarantees of free association and free speech in the state constitution, guarantees which are greater than what the U.S. Constitution offers.

AP slams Obama's budget "cuts"

According to analysis published today by the Associated Press, "Obama's latest budget-tightening effort hardly makes a dime's worth of differenc."

In a toughly-worded article, AP writers Andrew Taylor and Calvin Woodward take Obama to task for asking his Cabinet to find $100 million in budget savings -- much of it in already-proposed ideas -- and passing it off as fiscal responsibility.

Monday Message: LP's budget reforms outperfom Obama's 32.7 cent dog-and-pony show

Dear friend,

Did you hear?  Obama’s cutting the budget!

Unfortunately, it’s only $100 million, which comes out to 0.0027 percent of the $3.6 trillion in spending he is imposing on current and future taxpayers.  Much of it is simply things like buying office supplies in bulk, or one-time cuts that do nothing to cure long-term spending problems.

Libertarians call out Obama for fake gun stats

Sub-Title:

“Obama is ‘bitterly clinging’ to falsified numbers” in bid to push anti-gun treaty

WASHINGTON -- Libertarians are taking President Barack Obama to task for once again intentionally spreading false information about the source of guns used by Mexican drug cartels and blaming the United States for crime in Mexico.

“This war is being waged with guns purchased not here, but in the United States.  More than 90 percent of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States,” said Obama in a face-to-face meeting Thursday with Mexican President Felipe Calderon in Mexico City.

Libertarian councilman's tax repeal on agenda tonight

The Lago Vista, Texas City Council will consider tonight an item by Councilman Pat Dixon to repeal the city's tourist tax.  Dixon is also chairman of the Libertarian Party of Texas and is also a member of the Libertarian National Committee.

Dixon's agenda item repeals the city's hotel occupancy tax.  Under the tax, any business offering overnight lodging, particularly hotels and motels, are forced to increase the prices they charge customers, so the government can confiscate the money and then use it to promote the business.
