Ann Coulter Stirs Up Another College Crowd: One Arrested
Ann Coulter, known for her bomb-throwing rhetoric and outlandish speeches recently riled up an auditorium full of University of Texas students. While booing and heckling is always prominent at a Coulter event, Austin Police had their fill of the political motivated speech and arrested one student after he presented Coulter with a lewd question. (Click here for the article and the question)
The student, Ajai Raj, was charged with a Class C misdemeanor of disorderly conduct. Coulter's response to the event was to say, "They're always trying to act like they're oppressed . . . So let's do it. Let's oppress them."
This isn't the first time Raj had been arrested in recent weeks. According to a blog entry on PartyCampus.com, he was arrested over spring break for drug possession. His experience led him to write, "I learned that, according to our 'justice' system, a straight-A college kid holding a bag of weed is as bad a criminal as a guy who beats his wife and kid."
Coulter, author of many "liberal-bashing" books including her recent How to Talk to a Liberal (it you must), is known to protect Free Speech as long as it isn't the speech of a liberal. She regularly whines about "liberal media bias" yet takes extraordinary steps to silence opposition during her public appearances. During a recent appearance at Kansas University, Coulter asked the crowd, "Could 10 of the largest College Republicans start walking up and down the aisles and start removing anyone shouting?"
In 2000, Ann Coulter was rejected as a candidate by the Connecticut Libertarian Party after expressing her desire to run as a Libertarian candidate against Chris Shays.

Hey HQ!
Drew Wrenbeck up in Michigan achieved 44% of the vote in his race for School Board in Michigan. This is the face of constant bashing becuase of the current platform by his opponent's supporters.
wins and near wins by LP candidates in elections need to be expanded upon! How about a story?

he reports the results on my blog here:

Hey, I think he asked a perfectly valid question-I mean, how else would one phrase it?
Posted by: Erika at May 4, 2005 04:32 PM
Ann Coulter a Libertarian? What's next, Bush is a Conservative? HA HA HA!! I like that Raj guy (however i have a sneaking suspicion that he is probably a Democrat)
It's heartening that the LP has realized Ms. Coulter is not who she says she is.
I was at this event; her hateful, childish rhetoric, however much in jest, is meant to provoke, and she exploits it. If she can't handle the angry crowd she created, she needs to get off the stage and refund my fees that unwittingly paid for her lecture.
Did she answer the question?
No. Generally, when anyone with a political ideology different from hers asked something, she insulted them.
I'd like to know why the student was arrested for his insulting comments, while the speaker wasn't arrested for her insulting comments. The charge against the questioner, disorderly conduct, is clearly a violation of his freedom of speech in this context. Basically, it seems that the local police are saying by their actions that his vulgarity is illegal, while her vulgarity is not. What a double standard! The article isn't specific, but it appears that he asked his question as part of the question and answer format, which leads me to this conclusion. If he simply shouted out his question out-of-turn, that would be a different situation, because in that case he'd be violating the rules of the forum.
Take note, according to one eye-witness in the article, "officers violently seized Raj". 'Violently seized'? The phrase reminds me of a bumpersticker I saw just the other day 'American Taliban'. Guess whose face was next to those words?
Combine this blatant act of state-sponsored terroristic censorship with Congressial attempts to require 4 forms of ID to renew a drivers license and I soon expect to walk down the street and be asked by an officer with a swastika "Papers, please".
At what point do we scream from the tops of our lungs, "Enough"?
Posted by: FM at May 5, 2005 08:51 AM
Sadly, our US Supreme Court said last year that a law that requires someone to identify hiimself to a police office is Constitutional. Papers please?
Ann Coulter is to the right what Paul Begala is to the left, a party hack with no principals other than hatred of others. Would a real consrvative care whether two homosexuals marry? No. A true conservative would ask, "Why is the government even involved the institution of marriage." The republican party is just another socialist movement in this country. To hell with them all.
We need more elected Libertarians in Congress. Both the Dems and Repubs have done damage to this nation and the constitution. If Ron Paul can get in, so can the rest of our canidates.
I find it ironic that the same people who berate the police for not allowing the student to use profanity and inappropriate comments are the same people whose forum starts out by advising that profanity and inappropriate comments are not allowed.
I find it ironic that the same people who berate the police for not allowing the student to use profanity and inappropriate comments are the same people whose forum starts out by advising that profanity and inappropriate comments are not allowed.~ JC
Are you an idiot? If you swear on this website, you don't get violently seized by police. The people that own this website can control what appears on it. They can't however, send the police to violently seize you. This website warns you that you can't do it.
The police outstepped their authority. If the owners of The University of Texas had asked Raj to leave, and he refused, then the police would have premise to arrest him. According to how the police handled this, they could step into any privately owned property and arrest you for speaking your mind if it is deemed "offensive".
I think the Libertarian Party should organize a concerted effort to get every legislator in this country to blog for the people every day.
I think it is shameful, disgraceful, and pathetic that any sitting legislator elected by the people can sit there in silence and refuse to blog for the people every day.
Volunteers needed to help get all legislators blogging for the people every day. Sign up here...

Doug,
I don't think I'm the first one to notice this, but your obsession with blogging is pretty much obsessive-compulsive. Take a chill pill already and at the very least add to the substance of an EXISTING post. Do I have to bring up how you handled moderating the Badnarik blog? (hint hint, schwarzenegger post)
AHAHAHAHAHHAHA.
From our paper:
"When you break a law like cussing in public and making vulgar gestures..."
I'm laughing because it's painful.

Go Ann, Go! If I would have been there, I would have beat the ---- out of that ---- liberal ----.
Thanks for blogging LP. I would like to hear some news about the Libertarian Party. What projects is the LP working on today? What did Michael Dixon do today? I would like to have daily status reports from Michael Dixon here a this blog.
Who are the 2008 Presidential candidates? What LP state conventions are coming up? What LP meetings are going on. Let's talk it up LP leaders. Use the blog.
Ann Coulter is nothing more or less than right-wing porn. She says all the nasty stuff that conservatives think but are afraid to say. There is nothing libertarian about her or her isane rants.
"Ann Coulter is nothing more or less than right-wing porn"
"a party hack with no principals other than hatred of others"
Malaprops like these I suppose reflect enlightened Libertarian principles. What's lost in the froth of emotion is that Ann Coulter will defend herself if she's attacked. I suspect everyone who posts here would do the same. However, I haven't seen a single shred of logic when it comes to engaging Coulter on a specific issue (reminder: "party of principle"). Besides your Ann-hatred (closely related to Bush-hatred and Cheney-hatred, the ABC of leftist discourse), what exactly do you disagree with her about? Or are ad hominem rantings the sole metier of LP subscribers and readers?
Posted by: mk at May 6, 2005 10:52 AM
I find it amusing that you take one line out of a post and then call that a Malaprop. If you actually read my posting I pointed out that as a "conservative" Ms. Coulter would not care if homosexuals married b/c she would realize the state has no business regulating marriage. That is the "principal" of us enlightened Libertarians. That fact that Ms. Coulter may sometimes utter ideals with which I agree does not mean that she is always correct or that she has any principals. She is a GWB mouthpiece, that is all.
She is not a conservatice at all. She thinks Bush is the greatest president even despite the fact that he has outspent Clinton by 3-1 even excluding his 9/11 and war expenditures. The fact of the matter is you, like Coulter, have no idea what it means to be a conservative, you know only what the RNC tells you.
As for your "leftist" discourse remark, once again you reveal your stupidity. I, like many Libertarians, come from the ranks of Republican party. It is the republicans who are now the leftist with their big government programs, spending, morality legislation etc. George Bush is the most liberal president we have ever had, you are so ignorant that you think he is a conservative. You know nothing of politics so i suggest you go read a book before coming back here on one of your "defend the Coulter" trips. Idiot.
Posted by: Edgar at May 6, 2005 02:38 AM
So you think that someone who thinks that the government should legislate marriage and morality is a conservative and the person who thinks the government should stay out of peoples lives is the liberal? That is some sound logic.
Posted by: Doug Kenline at May 5, 2005 04:20 PM
Libertarians would never compel someone to speak or act.
The way I see it, if you have to resort to name
calling or other tactics to squelch your oppositon you've lost your argument. Based on that principle, Ms. Coulter performs a daily dis-service to the conservative movement she represents.
Bravo Ajai Raj....
PS-It's gratifying that the libertarian party (our party) rejected Coulter. In some ways she would have been a strong leader for the party, just not representative of our principles.
"Malaprops like these I suppose reflect enlightened Libertarian principles."
Excuse me, mk, but it would be preferable if you learned the meaning of the word before you use it. A malaprop or a malipropism is "Ludicrous misuse of a word, especially by confusion with one of similar sound."
Regarding Ms. Coulter, she insults people for a living. Referring to the Middle East as "George Bush's bitch", for example, does very little to advance the debate, but then again that isn't her purpose.
Rick
Actually, Kenline is right. The one way conversation with LPHQ and it's officals needs to be a 2 way discussion instead. Maybe he takes it farther than it needs to be, but he's not wrong, he just expresses it too often. Blogs are serious political tools these days and our opposition are planning to use them for fundraising and all kinds of activities that will give them a edge.
The LP needs to do the same. It seems to me that HQ has set the same person up that redid the website to be the blogmaster, and with the exception of the Michael Cloud post, all the posts have been Mr. Cory's. I too want more of our officers to write on here about what they are involved in and why. Once a day is too much, but there's no reason why the folks at HQ cant write a small piece once a week.
So lay off Kenline. He might a obsessive dude, but what he's obsessing about needs to happen in reduced form.
For what it's worth, RE Timothy West's comments, the posts have included one by Matthew Dailey, who is identified in his post; two by Daniel Cloud, the editor of LP News (not Michael Cloud, the author from Massachusetts); and the rest by Shane Corey.
I stand corrected, you are 100% right. But the substance of my comments are still very valid. It's a lopsided mix so far.
But the rest of my post remains dead on target. What they need is to have the lp bloggers around the US feed the HQ blog with a rss feed aggregator, then dump that all out onto the site. That would make for no end of content from all over the USA. FOR FREE!!!!!!! All you have to do is set it up.
I thank the good gentleman from Charles Town, West Virginia.
The Colorado LP convention is this weekend in Montrose, Colorado.
http://lpcolorado.blogs.com/
This LP National blog needs to have a blogroll.
The blogroll needs to have links to LP blogs from all 50 states.
People interested in the LP come here and they come to a dead end.
If we had a blogroll at this blog listing 50 state LP blogs that would be a good and very cool thing.
I yield the remainder of my time.
I think we are missing an important point. How ever we may feel about Ann's views the students ,almost always leftist, are not on the side of free speech but trying to drown out others with differnt views from expressing themselves. I never saw Ann leading a pack of statist at a Dean rally blocking his freedom of speech.
"I, like many Libertarians, come from the ranks of Republican party."
Really? I came from the Democrat side...they were just so...bleh. I converted after reading the 2004 platform, which consisted of "Kerry will make America stronger! Bush has done nothing" over and over again. Disgustingly vague.
Matt -
You are overinterpreting this. Ajai asked a question. A perfectly valid question that didn't violate anyone's rights, or squash anyone else's views. It was during the question and answer session, which is an even more compelling argument.
When I was there, several Republicans made their voices heard - one proposed to Ms. Coulter, another wanted to be her bodyguard, etc. etc.
How are we to express ourselves if not through free speech?
This blog is dead as a dodo.
My commet above was based on some other stories I heard about this incident in which it was reported that student chanted over Ann while she was trying to speak. If I'm wrong I would be shocked because I got the information from the always fair and always balanced Fox News Network.
If you look up either of the terms "moron" or "idiot", you will find a picture of Ann Coulter. She never has anything insightful to say on any topic and she lies constantly. Al Franken exposed her for what she is in his latest book "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right". Even though Al has some issues, he did a superb job of showing Ann for the idiot that she is.
Ann coulter a Libertarian? I do not think so! In fact, that's a laugh! No, make that a ROFLMAO!
Libertarians are a LOT more tolerant of others then she will ever be. Hell, this is the woman who goes COMPLETELY out of her way to insult "those she calls liberals" (which to her, of course, is anyone to the left of Jesse Helms), never mind there's substantial evidence that those people are responsible for at least half of the freedoms she and anyone like her enjoys today. If it weren't for equal rights for women, and the right for women to vote, among other things "liberals" have done to help make sure women were not treated as second class citizens, I wonder just where she'd be today? Probably barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen. If that's the way she wants life in America to be, then she needs to, in the immortal words of Cartman, "get back in the kitchen and bake me some pie!"
Yeah, she wants to beat "liberals" with a baseball bat, she wishes Timothy McVeigh had targeted the NY Times building, she praises the Iraq war no matter what, she insults Vietnam veterans left and right, etc.
...but throw a piece of dessert at her, and oh my god, she's crying that they tried to "hit a girl", and then resorts to juvenile insults to them in a diatribe afterwards? B---h, you want to run your mouth about those who are directly responsible for at least half of the freedoms you and all women take for granted today, then you need to take your lumps like a grown adult!
If she wants to claim intolerance and a lack of debate from "liberals", I feel those people are just sinking to her party's level (you know, the GOP, who has dissenters thrown out of rallys and threatened with arrest, or they were just drowned out with "FOUR MORE YEARS...")
Oh yeah, and I'm sorry that you have this belief that somehow allowing females and other races and ethnicities to go to school and learn together has something to do with the downfall of our educational status. Sorry, but the teachers and school administration are responsible for keeping the peace and providing the education, and besides the race problems we have today are what we get for suppressing a whole other race for almost 200 years JUST for being that race!
Also, if you don't like abortions of any kind, well this isn't China! I mean you are not FORCED by the government to abort your kid if you do not want to. It's also funny how you advocate and cheer on the death of 100,000+ innocent Iraqis, but god forbid if someone want to end their pregnancy at a late stage. Remember, your party is the one who is wrecking the constitution with the drug war, the Patriot Act, and other things, then has the unmitigated nerve to call it "defending our freedoms".
I read the TIME magazine story about her, and I was hoping somehow she wasn't as bad as she leads on to be. Boy, I was wrong! She's worse! She also is a heavy drinker, which may explain some of what she says.
My goodness, if she becomes ANY kind of spokesperson for Libertarians, then I will have no problem going RIGHT BACK to the Democratic party faster then one can blink! Libertarians are generally fiscally conservative and socially liberal (which is exactly what America SHOULD be, and the latter one is what I am above all else and will never change), but Ann is nowhere near socially liberal, so he has no place in the LP. Maybe in Nazi Germany!
P.S. I also notice she dresses a little too risque for a girl as far to the right as she is. (Though she is about 20 years behind the curve with the risque fashion.) If she is such an advocate for the old days with women, shouldn't she be wearing a poodle skirt and an oversized sweater or something? Maybe even one of those rediculously combersome ensembles the "upstanding" women in Deadwood wear. I figure, once again, if she's bitching about all the advances "those she calls liberals" have fought to give her, then she shouldn't be taking advantage of any of them. (Hell, would she even have gotten into law school if it weren't for U of M's quota system?)
Right on Jonathan Lentz. This is the kind of lively conversation that should be going on here. I think the LP should bring on more bloggers onto the blog team. Invite good writers like JL to blog on this blog for the people. The more converstation and activity we have going on the better. Also I like Tim West's suggestion that we have a fundraising torch or something like that to build up excitement. The Colorado LP convention is this weekend and there's not one peep about it here on this blog. This national blog should be the clearinghouse for all things LP. Grand central station for the Libertarian Party.
Michael Badnarik's website http://www.badnarik.org/ now contains his speaking schedule for the rest of the year and he seems to be attending most Libertarian conventions. He also is actively blogging and announced today that Libertarian Pat Dixon recently won election to the Lago Vista, Texas City Council. The vote totals were:
Pat Dixon, 646 votes, 68%
Gary Taff, 298 votes, 32%
Congratulations Pat Dixon and thank you Michael Badnarik.
I think the LP is dumb not to take in Ann Coulter as a candidate. You guys have nobodies. Ann Coulter is a smart lady and she is far less rhetorical and outlandish than the average liberal. She is only so controversial because she is one of the few right-wingers who isn't a total wimp while liberals employ every dirty deceitful strategy to encourage, extreme, radical left-wing agendas (short of cloning Stalin) are considered harmless. I feel it's very sad that more so called conservatives are afraid to back her up her because they are afraid of tarnishing their public image.
Thanks for the heads up on the Badnarik news report. I think there should be a link at this blog to the Badnarik blog.
Also Harry Browne does some fake blogging here...
http://www.harrybrowne.org/
Along with a weekly television show.
I think we should get Harry Browne to start a real blog with reader comments and link to the Harry Browne blog from this blog too.
Ryan Matthews? No way! No how! Ann Coulter does NOT belong in the LP!
Maybe you didn't see my postings above, but Ann goes WAY out of her way to insult anything that might be remotely liberal. She supports all the wars we are in, if nothing else to anger the anti-war crowd (which would include us Libertarians, but is aimed at, you guesses it, liberals).
Libertarianism (and liberty in general) needs the right mixes of BOTH liberalism and conservatism to work. Not JUST conservatism, like Slant-Head Hannity thinks. Crazy drunks like Coulter do not even think along those lines. Read the article about her in Time, and you'll see what a nut she is.
I am not defending liberals 100%. I will admit that they have done some things that are bad(mostly fiscally), but they have done a lot of good for this country in terms of bringing everyone to the same level, no matter what their gender or race is, and making people realize that sex and nudity isn't all THAT bad, plus they have opened up the idea of freedom of speech on the radio and television, no matter what it is, plus they are the ones who try to end the drug war (which is the biggest piece of government bureaucracy in America, and has been further grown mostly by the GOP). There are plenty of other things that I like that liberals have brought to American society.
If you put Harry Browne up against Ann Coulter in a debate, believe me, there will be some squabbling, because Harry and her will not agree on the religious right, on the wars, and on a lot of other stuff.
Liberals, however, have a REAL voice, and it comes from talk-radio host Ed Schultz. He can reduce Ann Coulter to a mouse in seconds. I've seen him do it too.
You may not agree with me on my views of life, and that's fine, as long as I'm allowed to disagree on your views and we each stay out of the other's personal life. We are all Americans and we should be fighting this tyranny which is the federal government on all fronts, since it does not matter who is in there. It's not getting any smaller with the GOP and the Dems, and believe me Ann Coulter isn't going to help us in any way. She belongs in the LP like Michael Moore belongs in the GOP.
Good commentary JL. You should get yourself a blog going.
Also another good Libertarian blogger who should be added to a blogroll here at this blog is Kenn Gividen.
http://www.writersbureau.org/
For example, Paul Elledge is the chair of the Libertarian Party of Guilford County. He blogs for the people here...
http://pelledge.blogspot.com/
People who are interested in the Libertarian Party and come here to this National blog should be able to find links to local LP leaders in their area.
There should be a LP blog for every state in the country and links to all of those blogs from this blog.
Thank God other Ann Coulter is a libertarian reject. She would make the common-sense party
look bad.
Thank you Doug, but I probably won't get one going for a while at least.
I am busy with a few things this and next month. So busy that I do not really need the heated debate of politics on my mind all that much. I get very lit up when I get going politically, and my mind doesn't need it right now.
However, I have been highly thinking of getting a blog going. Just not now.
Once again, thanks though. I'll keep it in mind.
Events like Ann Coulter and Paul Begala remind me that the left and right. Republican and Democrat are the same. For this reason, I am Libertarian.
Where is the morning report from Mike Dixon? What's the status of the LP this morning? What's going on with the LP today?
Crowding out a feedback oriented newsposting with information that absolutely doesn't belong in it is sort of ridiculous. Just wasting space set aside for a specific purpose, and ruining whatever that original purpose was.
Ann Coulter...
A leftist? I don't think so...
The Nazis supported big government too, not that I'm calling Coulter a Nazi (not by any stretch) but I'm merely trying to say that certain typefied rightist movements do support large, powerful governments that are heavily invasive in the daily lives of citizens. "Conservative" and "Rightist" aren't necessarily synonymous, and if you talk to specific Conservatives, the old timers, they sound more like Anarchist/Libertarian types than the contemporary view of the right.
If you wish to do that most unforgivable sin of all sins, give yourself a singular point of intellectual grounding from which to weigh on the various positions, yes, supporting Bush 100% is not actually a rightist position. We are at a juncture where we can no longer confuse Republican or Republican supporter with Conservative, or rightist of any shade. It seems the two rest in absolute contradiction in a number of ways. I don't think it's necessary for me to point them out, we are all Libertarians here, and we all tend to basically agree as to why and how the entire party was hijacked by Trotskyite 'conservatives' years ago...
That's unimportant.
What is important is that the (Coulter) forum denied an individual equal treatment under the terms it had stated, without sufficient justification...
Getting back to that issue, much like FDR's 'press conferences' of old, the questions were, or were supposed to be guided I think, so a question which puts the essential issues at large on the table, forcing redress, was not planned. They never are. Political pundits and the like aren't necessarily intelligent creatures, just charismatic.

Although I think we have beat this horse (Ann Coulter) to death, I just wanted to point out that Nazis were leftist. First, Hitler was the head of the National SOCIALIST Party. The right wing label gets attached to Facist movments so that the American left can label conservatives as Facists. In reality, all statist governments are, by definition, leftists. We have better things, ideas, and people to talk about than Ann Coulter. She is not a conservative, not a libertarian, hardly a human. She is GWB's mouthpiece and forgiver.
DC
Dave, while Hitler can clearly be labeled a leftie by definition for a lot of what he does, those clamoring around here in America who call themselves "conservative" or "Republicans" truly don't care about personal freedom either (except, maybe, for the right to own a gun). You got the religious right, who wants to control our personal lives and are in the pockets of the GOP. I'm sure a few more like that are hanging around telling those how to live, plus you got the corporate welfare going on, which is boatloads worse then personal welfare, because these jack@$$es don't need the money. At least the poor families need it. It's just we would wish they'd go out and find a way to actually earn it.
I had been putting a list together to compare Bush with Hitler. I got a few, but they seem to be similar:
Hitler - Rumored to have burnt the Reichstag (or parliment building) in order to blame it on Jews and slowly enslave the country.
Bush - Rumored to have allowed the events of 9/11 happen without even trying, muchless trying hard enough, to stop it in order to blame it on Arabs and push through laws and such to decimate the Constitution more.
Hitler - Wanted out of the League of Nations in the early 30s. Got it. Proceeded to invade every country he wanted to.
Bush - Wants out of the UN today. Is planning to invade more countries then just Afghanistan and Iraq.
Hitler - Abolished trade unions, and squashed all opposition parties.
Bush - Currently trying to destroy labor unions, and is trying to squash the Democratic Party (and any third party) out of existance.
Maybe others here can point out some other comparisons to this, and maybe a few of you may think I'm crazy, but I see this happening. Hell, even one story says comparing Hitler to Bush is an insult...to HITLER! (I used to have the link, but I can't find it now, but there are other sites who defer to this.) The reason is because Hitler actually strengthened Germany's economy and did a lot of technological advances in transportation, while Bush has destroyed our economy and is proceeding to destroy our transportation sector.
I'm not propping up Hitler, or even saying the UN is a great organization. I'm just pointing out the similarities.
Also Dave, here's the definition of "fascism" according to dictionary.com:
"A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism."
Some of it could qualify under socialist, but this is clearly what the GOP is up to now, and it isn't pretty.
Posted by: Jonathan Lentz at May 9, 2005 04:11 PM
Hey JL,
I agree with you 100% that the NeoCons/Republicans are a leftist organization. In reality, GWB is the MOST leftist president in US History. He has outspent every administration in history by 10's of billions of dollars. Had the Federal Governement basically take over the US Schools systems, became the world's policeman and has expanded the size and scope of the government beyond imagination.
The comparison to Hitler is a little strong and will not further the debate about Bush and his Communistic/totalitarian tendencies.
I do take issue with your tacit support for the UN. If Bush would join in Ron Paul's (R)(Texas) fight to get the US out of the UN, I would certainly applaud Bush for it. However, I, like you, think that his reasons for doing so are not b/c of any "conservative" principals, but because of his desire to "spread" democracy (i.e. invade other countries to impose democracy at the barrel of a gun.)
Dave, I don't necessarily support the UN either (though I'd like to just to anger the GOP and all the followers sniffing Dumbya's bunghole). I view them the same way I view Michael Moore; I don't love them, but I don't hate them either.
Basically what the UN did to Bush was tell him to shove it up his you-know-what on the WMDs, and he and his followers didn't like that one little bit, and rather then accept they messed up, they want to bash the UN.
Yes the case to get out of the UN is understandable. They are trying to turn us into a one-world government, possibly disarm us, etc. However, as we've bantered around, the GOP wants out because then they can do whatever they want (not like they can't do that anyways).
Here's a link for everyone to a movie we all should see and pass around to those who should see it: http://members.rogers.com/uenotech/iraq.html
It's called "9/11: The Road to Tyranny". It's pretty disturbing.
Anyways, it's nice to talk here.
Had Ann Coulter run as a L/libertarian against Christopher Shays in her home state of Connecticut a few years ago, her three subsequent best-selling books would probably have chapters describing the LP or the LPCT in glowing terms.
Since there are 50 states and 100 senators, I for one, would have supported the LP of Connecticut had they nominated Ann Coulter as their Senate candidate last time.
There are disadvantages to a nonpurist candidate but IMO they were more than offset by her popularity, her small-l positions on many issues and her long flowing blonde hair... long flowing blonde hair....... long flowing blonde.... Sorry, I drifted off for a minute.
IMO Libertarian ideas are robust enough to survive partial implementation and Ann has long flowing blonde hair, as I mentioned earlier.
Our platform is not a suicide pact, after all.

Tempting as it may be to support someone who is "popular" to be an LP candidate, we would most certainly lose the "Party of Principal" moniker if we supported as statist RNC apologizer for office. If we become like the Dems and Repugs, there is no need for an LP party any longer. The reason the LP exists is b/c the Republicans have lost thier stated principals and the Dems never had any.

Is the enemy of my enemy my friend? I this case no. The UN is the 2nd biggest threat to our freedoms and US soverignty (next to the Democrats). The UN has had one goal since its inception by Communists in FDR's house, WORLD SOCIALISM. The UN is evil and it should be invaded. I cannot believe they occupy US soil.
I can't say I actually support sovereignty a priori as much as I used to. At least not on the level of nationalism...
The thing is, the nation state, defense of it, and its nature, have been the cause of some of the most horrible things in human history, without a doubt. The Holocaust, Communism, Fascism, totalitarianism and so forth, most of these things confined as a related series of atrocities within the 20th century (a defensive intellectual case can thus be made for the nation state that these events are all part of a chain of phenomena irrespective of the nation, but it just doesn't float, said cited phenomena following from the apologists had occured previously in history, and will likely occur again but the nation-state era is the first where such things led so directly to something so awful) that have me thinking if national sovereignty (not necessarily sovereignty in general) were to erode, or just disappear, I wouldn't feel too bad about it. Hell, if all government got up and moved to 33 and 3rd on Mars, I'd be plenty happy about that.
I think the time that the Republican party really, finally went to hell for good was when it embraced the 'theories' of John Maynard Keynes and used them to buy big-business constituency.
Can it get any worse?

II. Waiver of Laws to Facilitate Barriers at Border44
Section 102 of the IIRIRA generally provides for construction and strengthening of barriers along U.S. land borders and specifically provides for 14 miles of barriers and roads along the border near San Diego, beginning at the Pacific Ocean and extending eastward. IIRIRA § 102(c) provides for a waiver of the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (ESA)45 and the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA)46 to the extent the Attorney General determines is necessary to ensure expeditious construction of barriers and roads...
H.R. 418 [the Real ID Act of 2005] would provide additional waiver authority over laws that might impede the expeditious construction of barriers and roads along the border. H.R. 418 would require the Secretary of Homeland Security to waive any and all laws that he determines necessary, in his sole discretion, to ensure the expeditious construction of barriers and roads under IIRIRA § 102...
Section 102 of H.R. 418 would amend the current provision to require the Secretary of Homeland Security to waive any law upon determining that a waiver is necessary for the expeditious construction of the border barriers. Additionally, it would prohibit judicial review of a waiver decision or action by the Secretary and bar judicially ordered compensation or injunction or other remedy for damages alleged to result from any such decision or action.
Ann Coulter wanted the Libertarian endorsement???? lmfao. I do have to admit, sexual fantasies have occured with her in my dream...lol. But as a Libertarian??? Oh lord, I am soft and choking on the thought now.
If anyone cares to know about the origins of the democrapic and repuglican parties, read "For a New Liberty: A Libertarian Manifesto" written by Murray N. Rothbard...good reading there. As for Ann Coulter??? Wish she would just shut-up herself is she wants everyone else to shut-up...lol. Have a good day all.
Hey, I love Ann Coulter. She makes me laugh. And as one poster surmised, she says things I'd love to say at times. You all take her too seriously, but that's why she's presently making the big bucks! And I'd rather both look and listen to her than Al Franken!
