Bingo Halls Need Protection From Terrorists

A Department of Homeland Security grant has been awarded to the Kentucky Office of Charitable Gaming to prevent terrorists from raising large amounts of money from playing bingo or running a charitable game, according to John Holiday, the Office of Charitable Gaming's enforcement director.

Holiday, who applied for the grant, admitted terrorists currently do not participate in charitable gaming, such as bingo. In defense of his application, Holiday said, "But the potential there, to me, is just huge. You can earn a lot of money very fast and deal entirely in cash."

The Homeland Security grant will pay for five investigators equipped with laptop computers and access to a commercially operated law-enforcement database, according to Holiday.

Reader Comments:

This is a very important priority for the U.S.A. after all BINGO stands for Blowup Infidels Now God's Orders!!! This government gets more and more ridiculous with our money every day.

Of course they should have thought of this sooner! Terrorists love bingo and rousing games of pin the tail on the infidel!

Now what to do about the next pressing issue of terrorist bake sales?

What a Joke use the money to fund Police and they can help with this and other or give to the people do us as they see

As far as homeland security goes, this threat seems pretty B9 to me.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it has come to my attention that bingo halls need protection from terrorists. It's time we have some Bingo Hall Protection Reform. Hehehe.

Aside from the obvious insanity of protecting against terrorists operating charitable bingo parlors, I was especially taken by the line, "The Homeland Security grant will pay for five investigators equipped with laptop computers and access to a commercially operated law-enforcement database, according to Holiday."

Excuse me? What does buying laptop computers for accessing law-enforcement websites have to do with preventing terrorists from operating charitable bingo parlors? Sounds to me like they just wanted an excuse to buy these guys some laptops.

I'd laugh at this if it wasn't so pathetic

When you hear news like this, sometimes I have to touch myself to make sure I not dreaming or dead. When will the madness end? Libertarian for President or atleast a Libertarian controlled congress with the ability to stuff a veto attempt down the President's throat.
Just when I think the government can't get any worse, I am proven wrong. When will I ever learn? LOL.

Just the other day I saw some terrorists playing the nickel slots on a riverboat casino. Terrifying, I tell you.

Posted by: Andrew at November 19, 2005 03:03 PM

I wonder if we put some of that money we are sending to Bingo Halls to keep them safer... I wonder if we took the money and put it up for the troops in Iraq... maybe for body armor? What about the troops in Afghanistan? Not only would our troops get home sooner, our National Guard would be here to protect us at home, or help in another ecocatastrophe as Hurricane Katrina.

In response to this bold move by the Department of Homeland Security, terrorists have now created an underground network of cake walks and lemonade stands.

Posted by: liberty-lovin' conservative at November 20, 2005 09:27 PM

Is this for real???

Posted by: Rob Eichenlaub at November 20, 2005 09:51 PM

For the funds that could be used to increase manpower to secure the U.S. borders from terrorist attacks, and secure ports, airports, and railroad stations, funds are being used to fight Bingo! Gambling! It is more than just inane. It is outright ridiculous. It is enough to make you want to get sick and vomit.

Posted by: Alex Pugliese at November 20, 2005 11:20 PM

Come on, now. It's perfectly understandable. They've got the money and they have to spend it, or their budget will be cut next year. You wouldn't want them to have less money for such grants next year, would you?

We ought to help spend it. Hummm. You know, how do we really know that our members mean it when they say they don't believe in the initiation of force as a means of achieving social or political change? Maybe we need a database and some money to call members and check in with them. In fact, if we got more members, each one would represent one more verified non-terrorist. Yes! I think we could get a grant for that!
