The official blog of the Libertarian Party

State Affiliate Update: Georgia
In anticipation for the 2006 elections, the LP national headquarters plans to provide occasional updates on the LP blog on what our state affiliates have been doing. In this update, we will first look at the Libertarian Party of Georgia.
Georgia Libertarians in Clayton County are petitioning to get three candidates for Georgia State House and two candidates for the Clayton County Commission on the ballot.
Libertarian Party activists in the Atlanta area are petitioning to get two party candidates on the ballot: one for the state house and one for a Newton County Commission seat.
Libertarian Party member Jeff Edgens, who was sworn in as an Irwinton City Councilman in January, has already made an impact in the city government.
The city of Irwinton had a landfill fee, paid in full by city taxpayers. Since August, there has been no tipping fee for use of the landfill, but the city council did not take any action to remove the tax. According to LPGA, some members of the city council wanted to add the landfill fee to the garbage fee so that they could continue to receive the tax revenue without the expense.
At a recent city council meeting, Jeff Edgens moved that the landfill fee be eliminated. His motion passed unanimously.

The LPGeorgia also recently launched a new web site, which can be seen at www.LPGeorgia.com
Good to hear that one of the LP State Affiliates is actually doing something. Not only has the LPMA not updated their homepage since December 2005, they have no plans to run ANY candidates in the 2006 elections expect one very minor city position. There's no way we're going to be able to be an effective alternative without more active state parties...
One of the things the LPGA needs much more of is donations... and I know the national LP needs financial aid too.
The only way to be effective is to be able to present a professional product... I'd urge anyone who reads this to remember, your local affiliate, your state affiliate and the national party all need your financial support.
These three levels of the LP each have a specific role, and if one suffers, all will suffer.
Activism and getting active. Nothing like it.
Rearranging deck chairs on the Titantic. The GOP and DNC RULE this state, as they do the other 49. The LP is sniffing vapors and saying it is good? Please keep this up as it means the next 30 years will be as pathetic as the last 30 years.
Why not assistant dog catcher? This is pathetic.
I have contributed to candidates in Georgia before and look forward to doing so again in 2006. I am glad they are working for liberty and I want to help them succeed.
In the last year, the LP of Georgia has elected a City Councilman and a County Chairman/Executive.
It's nothing huge, but it's a good start.
ONE City Councilman? Wow. Is that it? How many reps to the state congress?
Peter,
Why don't you check out the Soviet like ballot access restrictions the Democrat-Republican Party puts on third parties in the state of Georgia.
The ballot acces laws imposed on third parties are similar to the laws imposed by Cuba's communists and socialists.
The Georgia Libertarians are REAL Libertarians. I know because I go there to visit from time to time, and I pay the Airline with my own money! But, watch out! The term "neocon" is being used a lot on this site. That makes me nervous because it is a meaningless term except to marxists, communists, and ignorant people who think they know things.
The term "neocon" is also used by many libertarians. Look at www.lewrockwell.com and you will see that the libertarian and conservative columnists use the term "neocon" in their columns.
Just because "neocon" is used by a bunch of morons with microphones, wanna be reporters probably educated by marxist professors in "journalism" school doesn't impress me. And just because that stupid term is used by so-cslled "conservatives" and "Libertarians" doesn't give it any more credibility than any other stupid term. It is just another way for dumb-a--es
to hide behind their ignorance. Lets discuss the important issues, not hide behind some lame term like "neocon"...
I saw the LP of Georgia Website and I'm impressed.
Hurrah for Mr Whitfield!! A true Libertarian who knows one when he sees one! Good for you George! He said:
"I have contributed to candidates in Georgia before and look forward to doing so again in 2006. I am glad they are working for liberty and I want to help them succeed."

LP Stoners use Neocon name because it sound sexy and means nothing. They are jealous. Meanwhile the 'neocons' are running the country and the LP Stoners are on a blog whining about it.
Yes Chris.. you are right! Except I still don't quite know what "neocon" means. Instead of whining I am going to repeat my message about WSU and invite every self-respecting Libertarian to tell the WSU president that his head is where the sun don't shine.
Do you remember "Pappy" Boyington? (I think that's right) You know, the WWII fighter pilot air ace who flew corsairs and brought down more enemy planes than any other pilot? He was a decorated colonel in the marines and the leader of a clandestined Squadron (The Black Sheep). He was a Congressional Medal of Honor winner. He was part Sioux Indian, and graduated from the University of Washington with a BS degree in Aeronautical Engineering. His dad parked cars, and his mom was a switchboard operator. He worked in a mine to put himself through college. He was a Washington Husky. He was a genuine war hero.
The University of Washington was about to honor him with a school memorial of some sort when Jill Edwards (a student) said the following thing "I think it is inappropriate to honor anyone who
k---d people. Her friend, Ashley Miller said,"I don't think we should honor him. He is just another "rich white man". Wait...wait... it gets better ... another student named "Raven" said We should not honor somebody who destroyed lives in an unjust war.
These people are simply complete fools, and they will probably become Marxist teachers when they graduate!
I don't know about you, but this really ticks me off. I don't think I will get any sleep tonight. I'm sending my letter of protest to WSU in which I will point out that their University is named after George Washington, our first president who k---d people in the Revolutionary War... thank God!
To people who actually want to communicate here... Is it just me or did all this negativity start within the last couple of weeks. I see more and more people everyday that seem to just want to be nasty for reasons I cannot comprehend. I mean, maybe it is something to look at as a good thing, because if we are being ridiculed that means people are scared.
To the negative people, if you really want to interact, throw some actually thoughts out there instead of being mean. I am talking to Spike for the most part.
Also, Chris Matthews, I think it is kind of funny that you make an unfounded "Stoner" statement after saying that people are unfoundedly using the "sexy" term of neocon. Aren't you just doing the same thing?
Or am I just supposed to ignore them too?
Hey Jevon.... "all this negativity"? What the hell are you talking about? Don't you believe in freedom of speech, or do you want to just sit on your Jevon and gripe? Can't you complain in one or two sentences? Why do you have to spend three paragraphs on it? You are not "supposed" to do anything. I suggest you look, read, and learn...and above all, keep an open mind.
Pete Haskill -
Quit posting under the name Chris Matthews.
Spike -
A neocon is someone who believes in big government and police state at home, and a meddlesome foreign and military policy abroad. The only thing that makes them unique is the fact that their first loyalty is to Israel instead of the United States.
Jevon -
This negativity started in the last week thanks to the name-hijacking fake Tommy, Pete Haskill (who posts under different names including the name Chris Matthews), Jorge, W Rules, and Spike.
These people only joined in the last week or two.
I have been on here for nearly a year.
Hey Tommy... Can't Jevon speak for himself? Why do you have to speak for him? However, if name-calling is your long suit and the pursuit of truth through honest conversation is not, well then I can only hope you get well. By the way, thanks for keeping a time-line on people you don't like. As long as you are in favor of free speech, I can keep drawing pictures of Mohammed (with fuse).
Tommy,
Ok.
Spike, I am unsure how my "ignoring" you is taking away your freedom of speech. That is why I used the word ignore instead of squelch. You are more than free to yap on as long as you want. I was just saying that perhaps the joke is on me because you aren't intested in expanding your mind, just creating anger and resentment towards yourself with making blatent statements that are based on very little facts.
"Can't I complain in 1 or 2 sentences". I mean, actually no, now is it you that is trying to freedom of speech?
The negativity is about when you say things like "Dog Catcher". Hey, the system is stacked against us, I am not one to pat anybody on the back when they don't deserve it, but breaking into any politcal arena is good. The more the word get out the better. I had never even heard of the Libertarian Party a year ago. I personally feel that the problem is people just don't know there is an alternative. So let's stop bashing people for trying to make a difference.
How am I not keeping an open mind. I don't know WHAT to take from what you say. You seem to say all of these things are "wrong", but you offer nothing in the way of what is "right". So how can I have an opinion other than disagree with you?
Spike -
I don't have to speak to Jevon. I'm merely pointing out to Jevon how some people on this blog have nothing to contribute in terms of thought-provoking statements and insight.
I have to mention the people who have been disruptive over the last week (especially that name hi-jacker) because I don't want people to mistake me for that name-hijacker who only came on here in the last few days. I came on here nearly a year ago.
During my time on here, I never had to use any insults to get my point across until this week because of rude, arrogant, and condescending people such as yourself, Pete Haskill, the name-hijacker, Jorge, W Rules, and TruthHurts.
Tommy has, for the first time, tried to define "neocon"! Thanks Tommy.. Tommy wrote: "A neocon is someone who believes in big government and police state at home, and a meddlesome foreign and military policy abroad. The only thing that makes them unique is the fact that their first loyalty is to Israel instead of the United States." Sounds good Tommy except the last sentence... THAT could have been written by Herr Hitler or Saddam. I can see that anti-semitism is alive and well in YOU Tommy. Personally, I appreciate our Marines "meddling" in Saddams affairs abroad. Your definition does not meet with Libertarian ideas, nor the idea that Saddam was "meddling" in our affairs... does it? This proves only one thing. You HATE Jews.
Spike -
Just like a true neocon, you play the anti-semitism card when all of you arguments fail miserably.
This doesn't make you any different from Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and the vast majority of all other radio talk show hosts.
By the way, if you're born in this country, you should be more loyal to the United States than to any other country.
A true patriot would support a foreign policy in which we only protect our own country instead of trying to protect any other country or provide any other country with foreign aid.
Besides, if the roles were reversed, do you think any other country would try to protect us or provide us with foreign aid if we were ruled by dictator? The answer is no.
If you think otherwise, then I have a bridge that I'm willing to sell to you for pennies on the dollar.
OK....OK.... I am willing to take on two of you at the same time. No problem. It is dealing with empty-headed juveniles anyway. First, I AM "loyal to the United States" aren't you? Second, the "roles" are NOT reversed, are they? Remember "if wishes were horses, beggars would ride". If some foreign fanatics have sworn to kill us all with the now proven WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION, then we better go get them first, right? By the way Tommy, you ARE anti-semetic by your very own words!
Spike -
I never had problems with Jews as a whole. My problem is with Israel expecting us to protect them at all times when they can easily protect themselves with their arsenal of 200-500 nuclear weapons.
Even if Saddam Hussein wanted to attack Israel with WMDs, he wouldn't be able to since he would be attacking from a position of weakness. This would bring about his own demise since Israel would be able to drop a few nuclear weapons on any of his presidential palaces, and the economic, military, and political institutions of Iraq.
We shouldn't expect any other country to protect us. And no other country should expect us to protect them.
Tommy..I am sorry that your placid little
bubble has been broken. Insults are an everyday occurrence. How do you think the Poor slaves under Hussein felt about the insults directed at them? I NEVER said "Dog Catcher" in any of my blogs. Some low-life dog catcher stole my identity and put forth a negative blog and I am sorry if it hurt your feelings. But we can agree on one thing, we welcome all the Libertarian wins we can get....no matter how small some people think they are.
Hey, let's not belittle dog catchers here. Remember, in the Bush administration, today's dog catcher can be tomorrow's FEMA director.
I do think something needs to be done about this blog system. At the very least, configuring it to require registered nicknames to prevent posing. I want to get some feedback from users about setting up a true forum system.
It would not be hard for the LP to run such a system. The software is easily obtainable and once set up, requires minimal time or effort to run. You can delegate moderator status to various people, further reducing the effort to run the forums.
I have set up a temporary, sample forum, which I will leave up for a few weeks. I have set up a poll and would ask for feedback and opinions regarding whether the LP should set up a forum and how it should be run. You will be able to reply to threads and vote in the poll without registering, but will not be able to post new threads. Please leave any feedback on that forum board, not here on the blog. The board is at the following address. Not really fancy, but than again, this is just temporary.

Mark B. -
Thank you for addressing the problem of name-hijackers.
The guy hijacking my name has only been on here for a week, has been a disruptive influence on this blog, and has had nothing to offer in terms of intelligent comments.
By contrast, I've been on here for nearly a year and have consistently made intelligent comments.
If the L.P. decides to keep the blog, I would strongly implore the L.P. to adopt a registered nickname system, such as is used on the Drudge Retort blog system. Anybody who is not familiar with it can check it out at
http://www.drudgeretort.com
BTW, Drudge Retort is a Liberal Parody of the Drudge Report site for anybody who has never heard of it. Just going that far would be a great improvement over the current blog system.
Mark....Unhappy? Sounds like you want this site to control our right to FREE SPEECH.. Well, Mark I got news for YOU... it isn't going to happen even if people like YOU get control (God forbid).
Jevon.. your Feb 18 blog in which you said I Say things that are "mean". In all sincerity, You can't be real can you? Don't forget the little diddy, "sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me". If my words are "mean" than let's see YOU say something that ISN'T mean. Let' see YOU say something positive about our right-wing Libertarianism and America. Or are YOU just a hate-filled America basher?
I am going to suggest ignorning, People we really should be focusing on future potential candidate. This lp is being drag down with insults and etc. This isn't helping here.
Who is "insulting" who... "at.."? You can "ignore" anyone and anything you like "at..". Focus on anything you like "at..". So can anyone else "at..". Yes, you are... (in my opinion) "dragging down" the true Libertarian principles of Liberty and Freedom every time you open your mouth.
Spike: The "right to free speech" doesn't apply to privately-run businesses and, in this case, websites. Example: Do you think I could go into a Wal-Mart, give a speech to incoming customers about the reasons I hate the store, and NOT expect to be forcefully removed?
I agree with the other posts concerning better security with our blog system.
Jnice.... Is the LP a privately owned business? If you are stupid enough to go into the Wall Mart and disrupt other customers, well, then your rants could be construed as hostile acts, and you deserve being ejected therefrom. But not protected by evil "lawyers" afterwards. Compare this to say... Cindy Sheehan wearing a leftist shirt into the congress during the "State of the Union Message". Now don't forget.. I DIDN'T claim the SOTU message was good or even inspiring. It appears that you are just hell-bent on restricting views you don't like. Who are you? The king?
Spike:
I am not proposing to curtail anyone's free speech nor am I suggesting the LP do so. I don't see how requiring registered nicknames in any way will restrict free speech. It will simply put a stop to posing. I would think you would support me on this since you have been one of the victims of a poser.
Everybody would still be able to post whatever they wish, it would just protect people's identities.
I still support a full fledged forum, where everybody would still retain the ability to post, but where comments could be more efficiently catogorized by topic.
Bravo Mark! Well said! I don't mind registering. I thought I already had! If you say so, then I guess we haven't. Does this mean we have to start all over again? Watch out! This may be a mutual exclusion trap to stifle free speech.
Come on guys, those stories are fake and we all know it. Let's get busy with real issues and not all these distractions.
When a Libertarian runs for public office, no doubt it is tremendous. The person is willing to show the pubic what his or her views are and show the public what kind of person he or she is thus letting the public decide whether or not he or she has the right stuff for the job.
To run for an office, no question, takes a greatdealof work. Taskof raising campaign funds and raising money for media and campaign staff. Going on speaking commitments and tours. It is grueling.
Though I am proud to be a libertarian and a member of this party, I have to say that sometimes I am disappointed with my bretheren. When it comes to talking about issues of the day and expressing viewpoints, libertarians can mingle with the best of them. When it comes to education and activism, however, there is work to be done.
Libertarians have to do a better job in educating the public on its positions. Educating the public why we believe in the Constitution, why we belive in limited government, why we believeinthemagic of the private sector, why we want to end the war on drugs and why we follow a foreign policy of non-intervention.
Once that task is done, we can then engage in activism. Organizing non-violent protests and demonstrations, organizing the party faithful toward a common goal and objective, giving funds to libertarian candidates, engaging in speaking, media and fundraising, sending out press releases and so forth and so on.
By educating and getting active no doubt we can succeed. By doing this, the Libertarian Party can move forward. By not doing these things, we are then regualted to obscurity. I for one do not want to go there.
I am willing to do what I can to get the libertrain message out and do what I can in my area to give libertarians a dose of intensity. I hope others will do the same. For the Party, For Libertarianism, For the People of this great country.
G THOMAS what evident do you have the stories are fake, it happening for REAL in different states, YES! IT REAL.
Since no one else has, I will define Libertarianism in a brief equation. Libertarianism = Liberty. Any questions?
I am a college student working on a project for one of my political science courses. We are discussing third parties and the roles they currently play and can potentially play in politics. I have spent the past couple of hours browsing websites and familiarizing myself with various third parties. I was told by my professor that the Libertarians are considered one of the biggest of the third parties.
I really hate to hop on your blog and jump into the middle of your conversations! I am not a Libertarian and I feel bad for jumping in like this.
I have to say, of all the sites I've looked at, and samplings of blogs I've done today, this is by far the most negative. While I did read a few messages by people who seem pretty positive, a lot of the posts involved name calling, and pretty harsh fighting. I wouldn't even call it arguing.
As negative as you are towards each other, I would hate (being a member of a different party) to run into any of you.
I totally hope this doesn't insult any of you, I just thought you guys might want to know the impression an outsider gets by visiting your site.
Thanks!
Hailey
Hailey -
As long as you don't hijack another person's name, then that's fine.
There certain people who are posing as me and have been trying to discredit me for the last several days. Meanwhile, I've been on here for a year.
Hailey -
This is the real Tommy and I've been on here for nearly a year providing intelligent commentary. The blog was never this negavtive until the last week due to some jerks hijacking my name and another guy's name. That's one reason why I'm so hostile on here.
The other reason is that there are some people on here who have nothing insightful or thought-provoking to bring to the conversation here. They actually hate this party and decide to refer to us as stoners, traitors, or terrorists. That's another reason why I'm so hostile.
If you have a different viewpoint to offer, then that's no big deal since the vast majority of us would simply debate you in a calm and intelligent manner.
--------------------------------------------------
We already know that most other parties (particularly the two major parties) have a condescending attitude toward us. They mean nothing to me and the vast majority of other people on this blog since they are unreliable in advancing our principles. We can't trust them.
The only person from the GOP that I would vote for is Congressman Ron Paul (a libertarian Republican). He's the only one in Congress that doesn't act like a snob to ward the Libertarian Party. In fact, he's always endorsed by the Libertarian Party but runs as a Republican. The problem is that he holds a seat in a Texas district while I'm in New York.
All of the other Republicans and all of the Democrats cannot be trusted. If Congressman Ron Paul ran for the Presidency (and would most likely do so on the Libertarian Party ticket), then I would vote for him.
If there are any other questions that you have, then just ask away.
Hailey:
One of the reasons you see more negativity here than elsewhere is that the LP is the only political party to have an open blog.
More importantly though, the Libertarian Party, and the libertarian movement in general, consists of two very hostile wings. The first wing is the limited government wing of the party. They believe that government should be limited to the protection of rights and protection of citizens from force and fraud. Then you have the other wing, the Anarchists. They believe in no government at all, every man or woman for themselves.
Most of the disputes you see here are clashes between these two wings. I myself am from the Limited Government wing of the movement.
I would strongly suggest that if you have no previous knowledge of libertarianism or would like to learn more, that you go to http://www.cato.org .
This is the website of the Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank. It has no formal connection with the Libertarian Party, but is an excellent source for anything you want to know about libertarianism, all written at an academic level.
WEll, even if the other state affiliates aren't doing much, the Texas LP is...we've got candidates challenging every US House seat but one, 211 candidates in all.
Well stated Mark B. But, in my opinion you left our the apologists. They will dream up excuses for just about anything. Also this LP site focuses on really trivial and unimportant stuff compared to the issuse that affect us. Like our sovereignty. That is directly threatened by our bureaucrats selling out control of our major ports to the AEU, and our rights to our land. Does anyone realize that with this so-called "emminent domain" crap the bureaucrats can sieze land and sell it to the Red Chinese?
Dear "Hailey":
No self-respecting "student" (let alone his/her "professor") would use the word "negative" even after studying the "blogs". Many would-be Libertarians on this site are "upset" when other people don't agree with them. True Libertarians actually believe in Free Speech. One of our most valued libertys. They just might have some other agenda. So, as a result, I do not believe you are an innocent "student". Prove it. I think you are just one of the people on this site who often lie..
Oh Boy...
And folks wonder why we don't win more elections?
Hey John Shuey.. Us "folks" think your ideas will loose more elections for true Libertarians. Do you agree with the following?
Libertarianism = Liberty

Wow! I came back to this site to see how my comment was responded to. Thanks to those who responded with patience you gave me a much better understanding of the structure of your blog and actually made me want to take a closer look at your party. To this guy, Spike, "prove it" "no self-respecting student" are you kidding me? Your party should thank goodness that there are some people on this site who are able to take the high road and respond rationally and not with anger at a complete stranger. I am not a member of this blog, that was my first posting to this blog, and you, sir or ma'am give this party a bad name. You are the type of incredibly rude individual who would run a person right out of the party. While many of the respondants showed themselves to be assests of the party you attacked me...I am exactly what I said I was, a curious college student working on a project. There are no words to describe how insulted I am. I made an observation as a first time visitor in an attempt to better understand your party and am attacked by this complete stranger. I wish there were a way to relay to you the injury you do your party when you attack people that way. You obviously don't care about your party, you care more about being rude and nasty to people.
I have a class to get to. I have no more time for you, Spike.
To everyone else, thank you again for your mostly patient replies and explinations - I am grateful, and again, I learned a lot from you...most of you.
Warm Regards to all but one,
Hailey
"hailey" or whoever you are... You have not proven anything. I don't believe you are a "student". Students are taught to be objective. You are probably just one of the people on this site who lies.
Warm regards to one and all,
Spike
Spike,
I find your paranoid rants to be highly illogical.
Oh, brother, fighting people please, go find another blog to fight on. We need to use this Libertarian blog for solutions and answer. We do not have the time for all this garbage.
Oh brother? Why not Oh sister? Don't tell me you are also a sexist.. in addition to believing that your opinion is the only one that counts. Hey.."at.." if you can't stand the heat... get out of the kitchen.
Spike I think you may at times have good posting and other times I think you need to seek some therapy. There is too much arguing going on that is amounting to zip and just taking up unecessary space on this blog. This blog could be used for informative information and solutions as just sitting back and arguing is getting no one no where. If the fighting cannot be adjusted to constructive good use, then please go find a club of people who wants nothing better to do but sit back and argue on a blog to release the anxiety.
The nonsense posted here by the LP members shows beyond all doubt why the LP is completely irrelevant and a non factor on all issues in the USA. MY GOD, the people here are clueless, think they are smart, are not, and embarass themself with the BS spewing forth.
Having never said your ideas are irrelevant... I will say it now...It is YOU who are irrelevant "At..". I welcome your irrelevant opinions. Remember, FREE SPEECH.. a basic tenet of Liberty.
Spike, stop trying to shut people down. If you have nothing to say on-topic, don't say anything at all. And attacking Hailey was completely uncalled for.
Umm, can't the 'admin' of this blog ban Spikes IP address from posting?
Spike is a troll who should be banned.
Libertarians need to appreciate the degree to which Democrats have destroyed their working class base, and make the most of it. Sadly, I don't think many Libertarians understand this. Through its advocacy of hiring quotas (yes they still exist de facto), without an economic class dimension, the Democratic party has completely dissed the vast majority of its traditional working class base, i.e. working class white men. To reach these guys we must spell out just how, in detail, our advocay of individual rights will benefit them. We have to do this - nothing else will do. If we do so, there is no reason, NONE, why the Libertarian Party can't be the new #2 party in the United States (assuming the Republicans remain # 1).
The pursuit of truth through honest
connversation.... Isn’t that what we “Libertarians” are all about? Since I joined, this site, I really believed that it was going to be an objective, well informed assembly of people with open minds. This really means.... FREE SPEECH! Well, my suspicions are confirmed. It appears that people who think that their opinions are the only ones that count have subverted this site. Just what Karl Marx wanted?
My opinion of what Libertarianism is all about is the following:
1. Liberty.
2. Freedom of speech.
3. Freedom to practice the religion of your choice
4. Freedom to own and dispose of property without
government interference.
5. Freedom of association and assembly.
6. Freedom to bear arms.
7. Fighting to the death, all enemies foreign and
domestic to preserve our Republic.
8. Allegiance to the Republic of America.
9. The English language.
10. The preservation of American borders.
Don’t like this? Too bad.... It IS American culture. Like it, then FIGHT for it, or you will loose it!
But, nooo.... I have found the people on this site have employed every device to perpetuate their already narrow opinions. The people on this site have employed every means to destroy me and they have FAILED! Here is a list of invectives they have used to denigrate me, and, I assume, to drive me from this site.
Negative
Paranoid
Troll
Illogical
Off topic
Clueless
BS
Nonsense
Impotent
Coward
Shut people down
Attacking “Hailey”
“neocon”
Baby talk
Machiavellian
Dangerous
Here is what I think... this site has been subverted by a bunch of hipocrites who like to quietly listen to each other’s opinions and don’t want other opinions. Patrick Henry and Abe Lincoln are probably spinning in their graves! The first freedom is FREEDOM OF SPEECH and there is a reason. Apparently you all don’t know this..... I suggest you better find out SOON, or you are lost in obscurity. Left there, kissing each others asses until the end. The end being your radioactive body parts raining down on us all.
Isn’t it our implicit goal as Libertarians to convert “neocons” and “stoners” to our way of thinking? Name calling and “banning” won’t get it. "Dissent" is an objective response to your narrow-minded views. Do you actually believe that the founding Fathers did not argue? “at..” is your resident “psychologist”, good bye, and good luck!
Spike I think you might do better if you become an official elective of the LP party or run for something in office. I have ask a question however you refuse to mention because you feel it was irrelevant.
What is your background, do you have a degree?
Are you in the army? Etc etc etc.
Motto for Libertarians (just a suggestion)-
"Protect Individual Rights - Vote Libertarian!"
Or -
"The Libertarians - Equal Rights For All and Individually"
The Georgia site is great!!!!!
I, as a staunch Republican, am perplexed with this website. This is no place for all this 3rd grade name-calling and senseless character bashing. I have a 10 year old daughter who would not act in this manner. You want to make a difference then show me some true discussion of the issues and not petty name-calling. That type of behavior is repulsive. This was my first experience with a Libertarian blog. I was not impressed. I found nothing here that I can't see or hear going on between the other parties. You want to get your message and the message of your party out, then get to the real issues and stay out of the gutter. It is too crowded there already, but don't worry I will not be visiting this site again.
By the way, Spike,I think you meant to say "then FIGHT for it, or you will LOSE it" not loose it. Just FYI

Check on the Mises Institute at www.Mises.org. They are much better than the Cato Institute.
I would urge everyone to go to the Bill of Rights Defense Committee site, copy and send the various resolutions to your local and state government representatives. Press them to officially sign and support the resolutions and forward signed and certified copies to Congress and the President.

I wasted 5 years of my life on the LP, particularly dealing with people just like the ones posting here. They (you) are precisely why the Libertarian Party is comprised of Nobody and going Nowhere.
Libertarians fail repeatedly, primarily because they don't live the so-called principles they spew.

Spike: I hope Abe Lincoln is spinning in his grave. By the way, I think you have the LP confused with the Michael Savage Talk Radio Misinformation Party.
Since it is obvious that you are new to the concept of libertarianism, I would suggest you do some reading - you might start with the LP platform found on this site.
Check out: www.pnar.org/lplinks.htm
for some links to different libertarian related
websites.
You might find out that you really aren't a libertarian after all. Anyone who would mention Lincoln in the same post as the word "liberty" might also want to read a little history.
I'm going to take a moment to bring this discussion back to the general topic of Georgia, my home state.
We don't need no stinkin' Libertarians in our General Assembly! Woooo-wheee! We're workin' so hard down here in Georgia! Our Republicans and Democrats are working 24/7 to make sure that Georgia is...A LAUGHING STOCK!!!
Check out our latest efforts:
http://www.legis.state.ga.us/cgi-bin/htsearch
The above is a link to HB1443 - it's a bill currently under consideration that will declare, get this, red clay (or Georgia Red Clay) as the official DIRT of Georgia.
"A BILL to be entitled an Act to amend Article 3 of Chapter 3 of Title 50 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to state symbols, so as to designate Georgia red clay as Georgia's official dirt; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes."
Stop laughing, this is serious business. You mean we're just now getting our official dirt? Doesn't every state have an official dirt? I'm so embarassed!
Surely, SURELY there is something else our House could be doing right now!
Oh, and in case there was any concern, we at least 4 official foods; peaches, peanuts, Vidalia onions, and grits. I'm sure biscuits and gravy aren't far behind.
Steph I tried to look at your link, couldn't get it.
At -
I thought that might be a problem. I meant to add instructions on how to find it. Sorry!
Try this link:
http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2005_06/house/index.htm
Or simply Google search "Georgia House of Representatives."
Once you are on their home page selection "Legislation" from the top menu bar.
After that you can either do a search for the bill or a keyword search.
If you do a keyword search...sadly...use "official dirt" and it will pull up the bill. You can read the entire bill in its PDF format.
Let me know if you find it!!
Yes Steph it worked this time. please clarify what is funny on the site however.
Umm, I'm sorry I didn't mean for that too be taken so literally. It wasn't funny, more sad. In my first post I explained that the bill, HB1443, is a bill to make red clay the official dirt of Georgia, please see my first post for my tongue in cheek response to this asinine behavior.
Hoping against hope, I thought I would take a last look at the old LP site again. Nothing has changed. There is still no convincing dialog (except for people who agree with each others false premises), there are lots of insults, and "at.." is still the resident "know it all" psychologist. The only person who has made any sense is "Tim Crowley" at Feb 23. Oh, by the way I am still a REAL Libertarian, and I am happy that the King was compelled to sign the Magna Charta. Something you all would not know about unless you looked it up (and understood it).
That's CARTA, Spike - Magna Carta.
