Sen. Ted Stevens: "The Internet is Not a Truck...It's a Series of Tubes"

At a Senate Commerce Committee meeting this week, Committee Chairman, Sen. Ted Stevens (R - Alaska) weighed in on the net neutrality debate.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart reports on Sen. Stevens speech:

Judging from his speech, Sen. Stevens is clueless on how the Internet works, yet he is the chairman of a Senate committee that has jurisdiction over online communications.

Wonkette posted a remix video of Sen. Ted Stevens set to techno music here.

Reader Comments:

The most scary thing of all is that as President Pro Tempore of the Senate, he is third in line to the Presidency. Oh, and this is the same moron that wanted to spend untold millions building a bridge to nowhere in Alaska.

Oh my. They put Ted Stephens in any position after the "Bridge to Nowhere" fiasco?

Why am I not suprised...

Posted by: Action Liberty at July 14, 2006 08:13 PM

That looks like Galileo!

Posted by: Galileo at July 14, 2006 10:02 PM

Ted Stevens calls him fiscally conservative, then proposes to waste millions of taxpayers on a bridge to nowhere. This guy does not any crediability to make any statement about the internet. Him, the federal government and The UN both want to control the internet for their own self-fish reason. We need to stand up and say no to both the federal government and The UN.

Judging from this blog post, the LP still is clueless on the usage of metaphors. Do you actually think that he thinks the internet is a series of tubes? He is dumb, which is why he couldn't even expalin it correctly, but he is not that dumb. I was actually expecting some sort of real comment on the Senator's speech.

Naw! You gotta be kidding!

Ondich08 I agree with you and am very disappointed with the comments of these LP'ers!

Ok, you wanted "some sort of real comment on the Senator's speech." Here goes:

I for one greatly appreciate the senator's insight and knowledge on this subject. Of course the internet is made up of tubes! How do these morons think YouTube.com got its name?

And man, I'm sure we all feel the senator's pain when some bonehead dumps enormous amounts of material, enormous amounts of material, in the internet tubes! Do these boneheads have any idea what this does to our personal internets??? Well, do they???

And with the price of fuel these days I can't tell you what a relief it is to know that the internet is not a big truck! Thank God the Senator revealed that fact.

And when the senator's legislation is passed to use the tubes to transport fuel instead of for the boneheads who dump enormous amounts of material in them, we'll see the price of gas go down. And I bet then these LP'ers will really be eating crow!

We'll see who has the last laugh. My bet is it will be the wise senator! Who needs the free market when we've got politicians like Senator Stevens!

Sorry Ondich08! I was replying to Jeremy but some fool clogged up the tubes and my personal internet got messed up!

Posted by: Sol at July 15, 2006 12:10 AM

Sol--

That's plural, as in "internets". Get it right, man!

In fact, I'm using two or three myself right now...

Posted by: Action Liberty at July 15, 2006 11:33 AM

I'm sorry Mr. Action Liberty. I'll try to get it right next time. It's all pretty complicated. Maybe the Senator can give classes on it or tutor me some day.

I could really use some hope. I didn't even know the importance of lotteries in keeping the tubes clear.

Ted Stephens reminds me of the politicians in the Politician Removal Service. He proposed a bridge to no where, has no clue as to what the internet is.

Yeah, and just wait until PETA hears about the mistreatment of the server squirrels.
