Look Out for the Democrat "Truth Squad"

Rep. Nancy Pelosi and her fellow Democrats came up with another election-year gimmick to try to convince voters that they are more fiscally responsible party. Do they really think voters will believe this, coming from the same party that promoted universal health care coverage?

Democrats criticized the Bush administration's No Child Left Behind Act after it was passed; not because it was a massive, unfunded federal mandate that expanded the federal education bureaucracy, but rather because the law didn't increase federal spending on education enough to their liking.

Here's more on the Democrat "Truth Squad" from the Washington Times Inside Politics column:

With the fall elections little more than two months away, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi yesterday announced the formation of what she called a "Truth Squad," manned by some of her party's most partisan House members.

The Democrats' "Waste, Fraud and Abuse Truth Squad" will be chaired by California Reps. Henry A. Waxman and Dennis Cardoza. Mrs. Pelosi said the Truth Squad will focus on the Bush administration's mishandling of taxpayer dollars, which, she added, contributed to budget deficits.

According to the Washington Times, other members of the "Truth Squad" are David R. Obey of Wisconsin, John Tanner of Tennessee, and John F. Tierney of Massachusetts.

Let's see how fiscally responsible this group of representatives really are. The Citizens Against Government Waste, an independent non-partisan government watchdog group rates every member of Congress on how friendly they are to the American taxpayer, i.e. fiscally responsible.

According to the Citizens Against Government Waste's website, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Rep. Henry Waxman, Rep. David Obey of Wisconsin and Rep. John Tierney all received a rating of hostile to the taxpayer, the group's lowest rating for this current Congress. Rep. Dennis Cardoza and Rep. John Tanner did slightly better, as both received an unfriendly rating.

If voters are looking for the fiscally responsible party this November, the only choice is the Libertarian Party.

Reader Comments:

If the LP isn't running in one of these four's districts, expose them in a Letter to the Editor in all the district papers. If they are quoted in a congressional race in your district, same
thing.

YOU have to share you e-mail address otherwise you can't sign on here. How many people look at the controdiction of being able to say anything on here and your force to share your e-mail address, and on the other hand it says your email address won't be shared when your forced to share it anyways. I have also notice they are chosing who they want allowed on here to comment whether the posting here are important or lame. This is not a site for people to come to even though I have know a lot of libertarian people helping, and the complaining purist mentioned having their own site and yet they still come here. Something is wrong with this picture.

We here at the national office do not pick or choose which comments go up on the blog. We will only take down comments that contain profanity or that are inappropriate. These are standards that virtually every blog that is worth going to has.

I know some people do not like having to register in order to post comments, but it is for a very good reason. Spam comments are nonexistent with TypeKey registration.

I'm happy to see this post on LP.org, because it seems as if our Party was playing into the whole "culture of corruption" idea by not calling out Democrats for what they really are. Republicans are now big government (thus my switch from the GOP to the LP), but the Democrats, in my opinion, have more differences with us than the Republicans. And let's all recognize as well that even though the Democrats want us to believe that Republicans are shady and accept bribes, it's the Democrats who have received more money per capita from lobbyists than Republicans (that statistic is according to figures provided by Tim Russert on Meet The Press when he interviewed Nancy Pelosi.)

Going down the current course is bad enough, but if Democrats won we would have higher taxes, less freedom, and a government more willing to get back at the GOP than actually provide leadership.

I, too, am convinced that it will take Libertarians in office to make real change for the better.

I'd love to see a section on this site about the "RepubliCrat Culture of Corruption". As for the Democrats recieving from lobbyists, you can thank such high profile left-socialist groups such as the NEA. The Dems can deny all they want about them getting special bribes like the Republicans do, but they can't hide from the facts-especially with contributions from the NEA, AFSCME, and EMILY'S List-just to name a few.

Thank you, LP, for finally going after the Dems. It's great that there's resentment against the Republicans, but swinging the other way won't solve anything. I'm comfortable with getting a few more Dems in power (just being realistic, please don't attack me for not being a straight-ticketer), and maybe even a Dem pres. would work out better (than Bush, at least), but let's not campaign for the Democratic Party itself, as it seems we've done by only blasting Bush and his cohorts. With a Republican Congress (the worst ones thrown out, of course) and a Dem president, Congress will (or should) cut welfare spending, and the pres. will (or should) bring the troops home and cut military spending. Of course, this requires a great deal of optimism, but it could happen. The LP should attack the House and try to get in at least one candidate in the next few years. The media attention alone would make serious progress.
