It looks like the Senate was trying to slip this one under the radar screen by releasing this information late on a Friday afternoon:
A report released by the Senate Intelligence Committee reports that there was no pre-war link between Iraq and al Qaeda. The news directly contradicts the claims made by President George W. Bush and his administration in the build-up to the conflict.
Using information provided by a 2005 CIA assessment, the report also declares that, unlike was previously alleged, Saddam Hussein did not provide support for or have any relationship with terrorist leader Abu Musab al Zarqawi.
The interpretation of the findings has produced in-fighting between members of the committee, with Democrats alleging that the report is proof of the President using false information both before and after the war in order to justify the invasion.
On a related note. The Democratic candidate for the 24th Congressional District of Florida is a subscriber to the notion that the Federal Government itself either carried out or was complacent in 9/11. He won't defeat Dave Weldon, the Republican incumbent, but it is an indication that 9/11 Conspiracy theories have reached such mainstream status, that a man who openly advocated them in his Congressional campaign commercials received the Democratic nomination in an open election. His name is Bob Bowman and his site is http://www.bobbowman2006.com It is kinda a pity he won't be elected, would definately brought some entertainment to the 110th Congress. :)
Here's one of Bowman's positions:
Like everyone else, I am against crime. But too many politicians are doing evil in the name of fighting crime. This country's fastest-growing industry is locking people up. We have a quarter of all the prisoners in the whole world in this country. If I were President, I would pardon thousands of nonviolent offenders and political prisoners. As a member of Congress, I will work to end the disastrous "war on drugs," which has turned out to be little more than an excuse to lock up thousands of nonviolent young Americans, while white-collar criminals responsible for destroying thousands of lives go free. Justice in America should not have a price tag. It should be color-blind -- even to green.
Sounds like a Libertarian to me on drugs. Harry Browne could have written this.
That's funny, I have found no link between the Senate and intelligence.
