Around the time that Tony Snow took over as White House Press Secretary, I started to receive regular "updates" from Mr. Nicholas A. Sinatra (not to be confused with the late, great Francis A.) who appears to be a White House aide given his EOP (Executive Office of the President) e-mail address.
It's always nice to be thrown on someone's e-mail list for no apparent reason without any way to unsubscribe. But I'm not here to complain about spam as I do appreciate the White House looking out to keep the little 'ole LP informed of its daily propaganda (really, I do).
Since the White House has gone through this special effort, I thought I would take some time to inform you of some recent subject lines that have been included in these regular updates.
For your cringing pleasure:
9/28 - America Will "Defeat The Terrorists In Iraq"
9/28 - Tony Snow: Previous presidency hurt terrorism fight
9/26 - Achieving Greater Transparency And Accountability In Government
9/25 - REUTERS: Cheney says Democrats soft on national security
9/22 - BY THE NUMBERS: Presidential Job Approval Ratings Continue To Rise
9/19 - Gas Prices Continue Falling; Corporate Tax Receipts Hit Record High; Inflation Pressures Ease
Now, if you find those titles depressingly hilarious (my personal favorite coming from the Bush White House is from 9/26) the content itself will haunt you as it is designed not to improve the state of our nation but to protect the legacy of a sitting president.
We can debate the legality of government propaganda (see: 5 USC Sec. 3107) but - honestly - does the public even care at this point in time if the government breaks the rules? I think we're all a bit jaded by now thanks to the oh, so fantastic rule of Republicans AND Democrats.
I'll ease off on the sarcasm now but feel free to take over for me.
All that I'll add is this last headline from our friend, Bob Barr: Bring on third-party relief!
After living w/ propaganda, spins, and half truths your entire life, it's easy to understand why people aren't totally outraged. Being lied to is the norm. It's expected. I almost feel that people would be outraged if they got the honest truth. I think I'd have a heart attack, personally.
I hope one day we can make the necessary changes to government so that our founding fathers can stop spinning in their graves and future generations don't have to live in a fascist police/military state.
It's fairly obvious to me that most people don't care about either White House propaganda, or propaganda from either of the major parties. All you have to do is compare web-traffic to their sites with ours. Don't we compare very well considering our relative sizes?
