Bruce Guthrie Makes the Debates!
We just received word that Bruce Guthrie, Libertarian candidate for the U.S. Senate in Washington, officially received an invitation to debate Democratic Senator Maria Cantwell and Republican challenger Mike McGavick.
The debate will be aired locally on King-TV in Seattle on Tuesday, October, 17th.
Bruce recently loaned his own campaign 1.2 million, meeting the requirements to compete in this debate (just goes to show what our candidates have to do to compete in a closed, two-party system).
Bruce is a GREAT candidate. To see him in action, click here.

While this is about a Green Party candidate, it could just as easily been a Libertarian Party candidate, so it bears a read by all Libertarians.
I am glad that Bruce's contribution and efforts have paid off. He has my best wishes for his debate appearance.
Bruce presented himself very well in the debate. Unfortunately, getting stiffed by Rep and Dem candidate no-shows was most unhelpful and probably contributed to the apparently light turnout. Hopefully Bruce will get some TV time with the major-party candidates.
Chip: The debate video linked above is not the debate that we're excited about. That was just another event that happened to be online. The exciting news is that Bruce Guthrie will debate Maria Cantwell (D) and Mike McGavick (R) in one of the only two televised debates in this election. That event will occur on Tuesday, October 17th in Seattle. It will be broadcast by all the local NBC affiliates, Northwest Cable News, and several radio stations. We'll make sure we have this available on our website somehow. Check www.BruceGuthrie.com for details, which we'll post as we get them.
This is THE biggest debate of the entire election and Bruce just made sure it's going to be very interesting!
Way to go Bruce! I hope you start a buzz that ends up in victory on election day!
TMWright -- that is great news, indeed. Thanks for the information -- I'll watch for the updates.
Great news! Here in Texas the Republicans and Democrats break their own laws to exclude us from debates. Best wishes to Bruce.

Bruce was one of the most amazing candidates at the Libertarian National Convention this summer in Portland. He not only grasped the issues extremely well, but he presented them well.
And it's too bad that your average voter couldn't see him in the nonpolitical moments, like when he played with a 3-year-old boy, son of a couple of delegates, in the lobby outside of the convention hall. That kid's smile glowed in the dark after being with Bruce. This wasn't a for-TV moment; this was a glimpse into a real person who cares about children quite deeply.
Talk about family values demonstrated in real life -- totally counter to the image the Old Parties try to paint about us. He and I had a wonderful conversation about Libertarian policies being the only ones that are really "for the children" because we're not insisting that our kids pay to raise themselves through government deficit spending -- a bill these kids will have to work extra hours to pay off.
I think it's time to dig deep into my checkbook and send Bruce whatever I can. I will be urging others to do the same.
Bruce is a strong candidate. good luck to him!
