Another Libertarian Endorsement

The Detroit News just endorsed Libertarian Party candidate Robert Hutchinson for U.S. Congress.

In the open 7th District, the major party choices are the far-right Tim Walberg and the far-left Sharon Marie Renier. We'll shun the extremes and take our chances on the Libertarian candidate, Robert L. Hutchinson , a retired Air Force major from Dexter.

Congratulations, Mr. Hutchinson.

How refreshing to hear the Demos and GOP called "extremist" for a change. As much damage as they have done to this country, it's about time! Congratulations and good luck, Maj. Hutchinson!

The Democrats and the Republicans ARE the extremists. The Libertarians represent the new center in American Politics.

It's great to see such candidates as Hutchinson receiving good press. That offsets some of the much-less-helpful press such as this, re our write-in candidate for Governor in Alabama:

When I get into discussions about the party on other blogs, I invariably get examples like this thrown back at me. It's tough to get our ideas taken seriously when a candidate apparently is willing to discuss, on a Web site, why she doesn't wear panties.

SHANE CAN YOU POST THIS. I commend this libertarian, and in spite of his disability, he running.
This one deserve notice.

"Shun the Extremes" It's amazing that this reporter described the LP in three words better than the LP has in 30 years.

Posted by: RustyZ at October 24, 2006 08:03 PM

Loretta Nall, our write-in candidate for governor in Alabama (see http://www.lorettanall.com/), is a much better candidate than the person who posted the note above gives her credit for.

There is a story behind Loretta's discussion of panties, which has to do with she and her mother being refused permission to visit her brother in a state penitentiary after driving for hours to see him, because they weren't wearing them that day. Cruel and arbitrary rules like this affect thousands of government prisoners and their families.

More power to Loretta for speaking out and not being afraid to air her personal laundry as a way of embarrassing those who rely on such petty means of oppression! I wish that the LP had dozens of candidates with her guts and chutzpah, and until we do, we are not likely to make much progress.

It's not about being "taken seriously," it's about doing the right thing! Better yet, doing it in a manner that engages the public and attracts attention. Let the social conservatives laugh at our more colorful candidates -- at least they're paying attention. That's more than can normally be said about most of the public with regard to the Libertarian Party.

Remember this: "Boredom is counter-revolutionary -- always."

Well, what do you know. Someone who can tell both the far left and far right where to go. I get tired of hearing that a vote for an independent or third party candidate is a wasted vote. I get tired of hearing that I have to vote for the lesser of two evils. Too bad I don't live in his district. I'd vote for him.

Posted by: Ken Mitchell at October 25, 2006 12:23 PM

For those who say its a wasted vote for the third party. I just say, remember who the whig party way back before some of our time. Well they got removed. The same thing can happen again, let us kick another party and be a majority. Also I say everyone who thinks a vote is wasted, it is wasted, voting for the other parties who is leading us down a wrong path. So all you wasted voters out there, vote for the Libertarians and you WILL SEE THAT THE LIBERTARIANS MEAN BUSINESS.

Here is the real story about how Loretta Nall's "girls" were made a campaign issue by an antagonistic and dismissive political columnist.

Posted by: James Anderson Merritt at October 29, 2006 01:07 AM

To criticize the lady for making fundraising lemonade out of this mainstream media coverage lemon is pretty hypocritical, if you ask me. If anything can be said about Ms. Nall, it is that she won't let herself be made a victim. Go Loretta!
