Gates States the Obvious
Here's the Cliff's Notes version:
The nominee for United States Secretary of Defence, Robert Gates, says that the US is not winning the war in Iraq, directly contradicting President Bush.
Here's the rest of the story.

Here's something even more obvious - Stephen Gordon and the other staff members of hammeroftruth.com are not acting very libertarian when they refuse to show any sort of accountability for the disappearance of hammeroftruth.com, or the six months plus delays for libertymix.com, despite a huge donation campaign that included e-mails by Michael Badnarik. After $10,000 in donation, there has been no libertymix.com, a vanished (and now reappeared in neutered form) hammeroftruth.com, no apologies, but plenty of snide remarks. Let's see the libertarians who donated their time and money on hammeroftruth.com demand accountability of Stephen Gordon and his associates and see some real answers on the issue!
Chris, they will both be up soon. They are my livelihood and I am just as anxious to get things up (so I can get ad revenue rolling back in) as everyone else.
Well, I apologized in another thread for this off-topic matter and I will again here, but as I have no other forum to voice my concerns, (if there is one, let me know!) I will voice them here.
No offense to you, but considering the fact that HOT disappeared with no warning or explanation after the chorus of the disenchanted became louder (re: libertymix), assertions of "they will both be up soon" don't mean much - especially since you still have yet to attempted to explain the situation. Nor have you explained why libertymix, after having been delayed over 6 months, did not appear on Election Tuesday (after you publicly mocked the skepticism of others when you repeatedly promised that it was DONE, you were just, erm, "strategically delaying" it).
In short, less talk more action. And your talk to this point has been far short of convincing.
"In short, less talk more action."
It will be up soon. I'll shut up now and let it stand that HoT/LM will be up soon because I miss the commentary just as much as everyone else.
Argh. Perhaps I should have said "more action AND more talk." Specifically, an explanation for that which remains unexplained ;)
Just received intelligence that Grand Ayatollah ali Khameni, Supreme Leader of Iran, is dying and his doctors say he will probably not survive past March.
This could really destabilize the whole Middle East, especially if a power struggle breaks out in Iran over the succession. There is a lot of quiet resentment in Iran over the totalitarian regime, and a power struggle could lead to major upheavals. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Chris, it is completely inappropriate for you to hijack this public forum to make a stink about your personal complaints with other organizations. What sort of impression are you making on the non-libertarian visitors to this site?
First of all, they're not just my "personal complaints"; I'm sure it took hundreds of people to donate the (reportedly) over $12,000. Again, here are some basic facts:
1. Michael Badnarik (you may have heard of him, frequent LP candidate) sent an e-mail at the beginning of 2006 stumping for donations to this site.
2. Stephen Gordon (you may have heard of him, LP communications director, runs this blog) is an editor for the website in question.
I agree with you in principal that it has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but also as previously stated, attempts at private communication had failed - I wouldn't have resorted to this (or needed to) had someone responded to my e-mail over a month ago. It looks like Stephen may have e-mailed me so I'll check that soon, I'm just responding to your point.
As far as non-libertarians, I'd rather they shrink away in disgust in my actions than to be enchanted by false rhetoric, only to be let down. This is the party of principle (though with the Badnarik campaign finance scandal going on, I'm becoming less certain of this), not the party of put up a pretty facade.
Keep on fighting the good fight, Chris! Couldn't agree more.
I don't know how anyone expects Libertarians to win elections, when we can't get it together to hold a couple of p rominent Libertarian activists and commentators to their word.
Having a struggle for power in Iran might be a good thing. They are presently about as hard line as they can get so maybe they will relax their position a little if with the Ayatollah's death, the silent citizens support a strong figure that is less hard line. We really don't need a strong, united Iran right now, considering how poor our government's own diplomacy is in the region. Man, I wish we had a libertarian head of state. It would be so much more civilized.
Chris,
Let me be clear, some other blog has nothing to do with our operations at the LP. Steve was previously involved but disclosed that upon hiring and has no stake in the matter now.
Do not bring it up again on this site as it does not relate to any of the posts or topics. To say you have no other recourse is a poor excuse. Use a phone and address your concerns directly.
"To say you have no other recourse is a poor excuse. Use a phone and address your concerns directly."
But he's absolutely correct. Emails go unanswered. Too many people were asking questions on the Hammer of Truth site, so comments on those threads were shut off - then the site itself was shut down. Does anyone really think phone calls will lead to anything better? We'll be lucky if they even pick up.
But I'm willing to give it a try. Have Gordon and Van Dyke post their personal cell phone numbers, right here, for all those who have questions. Maybe something will come of it.
I've started a conversation on the topic right here if anyone is interested: http://conversate.org/conversation/3HWI8
You can post anonymously and without fear of reprisal. If all the truth-seekers who wanna know what's really going on pitch in, we'll get to the bottom of this.
A phone number? I don't talk to anybody on the phone with whom I don't have a personal or significant business relationship if I can avoid it. That said, if Stephen would rather discuss this over the phone, I'm game. He has replied in principle via e-mail but he hasn't actually addressed my issues other than to say libertymix would be up "in a few days" at this point. To his credit, he said he thought he responded to my original e-mail; I didn't get it if he did as I told him. So that's where we stand right now.
First..Meg & Nick, shut up. Thank you
Second..atleast someone associated with the administration attempted to finally tell us the truth about the war. Perhaps the "spin doctors" in the White House are now completely overworked and out of ideas.
(puzzled, trying to figure out why I should shut up) I was just pointing out that a strong, vocal, hard-line Iran is a threat to many nations, including our own, and that I'd like to see them back off from their current position.
