Lest anyone mistakenly think Congress will be free of scandal with the Democrats in charge, think again. Voters in the Big Easy just re-elected a person some might decide to call The Big Sleazy. From the AP:
NEW ORLEANS: U.S. Congressman William Jefferson easily defeated his fellow Democratic opponent in a runoff vote despite an ongoing federal bribery investigation.
In complete but unofficial returns, Jefferson - Louisiana's first black congressman since Reconstruction - received 57 percent of the vote over state Rep. Karen Carter, who had 43 percent.
Carter was unable to capitalize on a scandal that included allegations the FBI found $90,000 in bribe money in Jefferson's freezer.
Any ideas on how to clean up all the corruption in DC?
Whenever you have governments you will have corruption. It is just part of the human condition. However, the way to reduce the effects of corruption is to reduce the power of government.
The more power the government has the more its decisions on even the most minor of things affects people and businesses. When a minor decision can cost or give your company millions of dollars spending $90,000 in bribes makes good economic sense.
Most corruption occurs on the decisions that are made at committee level on what to the majority of the country is a minor part of an unimportant bill or regulation. So that's how it flies under the radar most of the time.
When Dems are in power they are corrupt and when Reps are in power they are corrupt. Whichever party is in the minority cries about the corruption of the other. Remember one of the reasons leading up to the Gingrich takeover in '94 was allegations of corruption.
It won't take long before the Dems begin to stink in the noses of the voters again.
We need to get out the idea to the general voting public that it isn't the parties that are corrupt, it 's the entire system.
The less government the less reason for corruption.
Now, not to be a party pooper but the reality is even if our party wins and enacts its agenda corruption will still exist. If our agenda is enacted there will be less and on a smaller scale, but it will always be there.
Make sure they don't have any power that's worth $90,000 to anybody.
