As a retired State worker and Libertarian Party supporter I would like to say that we had people that were hard workers and people that were lazy. Just like the private sector.
Also most of us knew the difference between an elevator and an escalator.

I don't think slandering government workers is the way to go.
I personally have no animosity towards them (except when they fight reform). I simply want to reduce their number and the amount of jobs for them to do.
Most of them are decent, hard-working americans trying to provide for themselves and their families. It is not their fault that politicians would rather play income-redistribution games than do the hard work of explaining that your life is your responsibility. That being said their unions are an institutional problem. If you remember the budget battles in the mid 90's the Republicans proposed modest reductions in the rate of growth in spending on fed programs (it will only grow by 2% instead of 4-5%). Clinton effectively used the gov't. employee unions to make it appear that the Republicans were going to throw thousands of Fed employees on the streets and take school lunches out of the mouths of starving children.
However most unions don't represent the views of their membership anymore. Union members voted overwhelmingly for Reagan while the unions were funding his opposition.

John, we agree again!
This should be titled "Elected Officials."

The elevator is run by the government. The two persons on said elevator are members of the two major parties, but are not elected. They are so used to the nanny-state taking care of their transportation that when it is left up to them to transport themselves, instead of acting, instead of doing, they stand there and waits in hopes that someone else will save them. Throw in a train, and that's Atlas Shrugged.
It certainly is a bit irritating when I get on an escalator and the person in front of my just stands there, blocking my way--which is every single time I get on an escalator.
I work for the government, and I also have a disability. I work very hard to compensate and believe me I see lazy people and other things I cannot say on here that make me very upset. I work for the government because I had problems with the private sector, although some of us very hard workers have more problems, maybe because we make the lazy ones look bad.
