Learn More of the History of the Libertarian Movement on C-SPAN

While were aren't usually in the habit of promoting books at LP.org, Reason's Brian Doherty has a new one out which provides a history of the Libertarian movement.

Additionally, Doherty will be on C-SPAN this weekend. Here's the information he provided about the program:

Hi everyone! I'm letting everyone know that I'll be talking about my new book RADICALS FOR CAPITALISM for a full hour this weekend on C-SPAN2--that's "2", the OTHER C-SPAN.

It airs on Saturday Feb 10 at 9 pm EASTERN.
Then again on Sunday Feb 11 at 6 pm and 9 pm EASTERN

This might prove to be an interesting program.

Reader Comments:

I happened to catch a bit of Brian Doherty on C-SPAN 2, in itself, an unusual place for me to be. The coincidence, however, is that I am becoming immune to bad news; you know, Hillary as president? I believe in capitalism, but it really has become extinct. Hearing Brian has stimulated me to look into your Libertarian thoughts. I may belong with you. I'll buy his book; look into your beliefs, and see what happens. I'm pretty sure that, at the least, you are intellectually honest.
Sincerely, Ed Bartolini

I had the misfortune of the program on C-SPAN2 being pre-empted by a Knicks game. What the hell is a Knicks game doing on C-SPAN2? It's likely that a Rangers game was on MSG, then the Knicks game was joined in progress on both networks. That's still no excuse.

I'm pissed! I tuned in last night to C-SPAN to watch Brian's appearance. 8:00 cst. It wasn't on!! What happened? Did someone get the times wrong?

I'm an old friend of Brian's going back to our Florida College Libertarian days. I'm looking forward to reading his book.

BTW, for those interested in libertarian movement history we do have a Yahoo Group called American Libertarian, where we discuss movement history from Roger MacBride and Ed Clark in the 1970s to Ron Paul and Rudy Giuliani for 2008.

Thanks Mike N. for the link. I've put the link on my third party website. And thanks Stephen Gordon for posting this blog entry. Being a Libertarian, I very much enjoyed this interview. It's very rewarding hearing an intellectual talk about Libertarianism on C-SPAN. Thank you C-SPAN!

Giuliani a libertarian? Oh please. Paul has walked the walk for years in Congress (although why he doesn't co-sponsor H413 is beyond me). Giuliani did SO many un-libertarian things in NYC, that he really should be Bob Barr's running mate, or vice versa. Two drug warriors together, that's the ticket. NOT!

Very nice show. Doherty comes off as Dan Ackroyd imitating Elliot Gould, or vice versa, but that makes him interesting apart from the interesting ideas and anecdotes that he is discussing. In any case, I'd be glad to buy this guy a beer, if ever I run into him in my travels.

Rudy Giuliani? man I hope not.
