Redpath's "hare-raising" interview

It wasn't all business in Reno, NV when the LP visited for the Conservative Leadership Conference this past October. In the middle of handshaking and speech giving, Libertarian Party National Chairman Bill Redpath found some time for talking bunnies. . .of sorts. For a welcomed break from the seriousness of a political conference, Redpath sat down for a Rabbit Bites interview. Rabbit Bites (www.rabbitbites.com) interviews high profile guests in a rather unorthodox manner. That manner being two talking rabbits, Buns and Chou-Chou. A notorious friend of rabbits, Redpath couldn't resist.

The interview is posted below, and for a link, please click here.

Reader Comments:

Hilarious! Redpath, you're a bit charming in this interview...

"Libertarians are for hookers." Hahahahaha

Just a few days ago I had someone privately tell me that they don't think prostitution should be illegal, but he wouldn't dare say so publicly for fear of retribution.

Awesome... Well put, and yet, it still amazes me that MOST Americans are ignorant as to what a Libertarian is. Say the word Libertarian, and they immediately think for a second and say "librarian??" NO!! NO NO NO NO!! Libertarian, (as already said) is the name of the 3rd largest political party in the U.S. What's easier yet to understand is our party stance! CONSERVATIVE ON FISCAL ISSUES!! LIBERAL ON SOCIAL ISSUES! This means, in a nutshell (and I'm sure Chouchou would love the nut), we're for LIBERTY--for FREEDOM. They challenge me with "yeah?" Well name me one famous Libertarian!!! I retort "how about three?" Thomas Payne, Bill Maher, and Benjamin Franklin. Have you ever heard of THEM? (Despite the irrelevancy of Payne's life post his Libertarian attempt at a Manifesto and despite the fact Steve Colbert, whom some still believe is being genuine on stage, is more watched than Bill Maher).

Thank you for posting this. Libertarians are for anything which does not directly nor tangibly interfere with you're rights, nor you with his. Pointing to a brothel 30 miles away... uh, how does that directly OR tangibly affect ANYONE'S life? (Other than the disabled men sexual choices of rape or going to a brothel to get sex, or accespting sleeping with woman who weighs twice what he does and smells thrice as badly, or disabled women who have to be with men who are HALF their weight and smell thrice better than they do).

I'm truly sad I don't have the money to run for serious political office as a Libertarian. I have a Ph.D. I was an Army officer for 14 years, fought in 6 combat tours, all with Cavalry units as an aviator and have won the likes of a Silver Star,a DFC, Purple Heart (x2), Bronze Star(x3), LoM (x2), MSM, Air Medal(x6) and several Army Commendation Medals (x12 though I've never won an Army Achievement Award--the Army's lowest possible award--freaky, huh?). I was FORCED into retirement as pilots may no longer fly after severe I've been the CEO of 2 civilian companies and were I not 100% disabled (yes, 100$, and yes, Service and War Connected) and poor, I'd do it in a heartbeat

Why in the world are we, the people who believe in Paul McCartney's "Let it Be" so vilified and misunderstood. I've never met a STUPID Libertarian, but only because I think you have to be politically very aware to be a libertarian. Were we as publicized or financially backed as well as big business, I'm sure lots of stupid people would be libertarians. Unfortunately CEO'S of Big Business and Big Oil don't want us in office because wen't not GOOD for them (but why the NRA isn't throwing 100$ of it's political power behind us is beyond me. No political party in history is as pro gun ownership than the Libertarians--so much so that for awhile, Libertarians were almost synonmous with the NorthWestern Militia groups who (sadly) went beyond the law. It amazes me that even today, Clarence Darrow's loss in the Scopes case is actually considered legitimate reasoning for allowing Christianity in schools. Not by Zeus in MY schools had they best try to allow the teaching of Creationism as a "Science" (or maybe they're just too idiotic to understand the true meaning and needs for something to be considered "science"). These are the same people that point to the pledge and try to convince others the words "under god" were put in the original pledge when it was done under 75 years ago!!

We are not a country which was founded by Christians, we were founded by a people trying to escape from people telling them HOW to worship whichever god they CHOSE to worship (see Cromwell, Oliver).

Enough. I know this ran too long, but I'll promise STRONG pushes towardd Libertarian sponsored Bills with Libertarian values and if anyone agrees with me and thinks they can find a way to get a 100% disabled Ph.D. holder to be taken seriously as a candidate for a congressman, Senator or Governor, please feel free to let me know, or tell me and I'll ask you to be my Campaign Manager. :-)!

I know I joke a lot... the best Presidents often do (see Reagan v Mondale when Reagan was asked about his age and he promised not to hold his competitors inexperience against him). The best politicians know how to tell the truth but do so in a way that makes Americans feel good about themselves, and right now, we're AMERICANS and even WE don't like us--soldier suicide rate is the highest in the history of the country. People say "thank you" to our soldiers, but get angry when taxes are raised by a $200 dollars a person (on average) to raise the pay of soldiers JUST TO GET THEM ABOVE THE POVERTY LEVEL!! Isn't it about time we became Americans again and started fighting for our rights again? Instead of giving them up the way G Dubya has gobbled them up? I'd almost rather be living under some of the other names thrown around as the worst president's ever (Kennedy, Cleveland, Carter). The one thing we used to be able to turn to in order to feel happy as an American is sports, but now a man doped up on steroids first LIES about it, then breaks the record of a very RESPECTED man who had to FIGHT just to PLAY in the majors, and Bonds is flippant about it. Are we really proud to be Americans anymore? Hell, I almost died for this country and I'm pretty darned ashamed of it now.

Methinks 'conservative' dogma is dog poop..

My dictionaries--not Rush stinking Limbaugh, Ronald stinking Reagan, Bill stinking O'Rielly, etc. apparent god-damned Republicrat fools and cheerleaders ad nauseam--define it: "..one who favors preserving existing institutions; one who opposes change," etc.

I'm constantly amused by the loud, apparently stooooooooooopid 'conservative' 'opposers of change' near-constantly whine and cry about 'the way things are'..(apparently these gd 'conservative' fools are masochists:.."it's real bad, but don't change anything!"

..so why do so many 'Libertarians' defend, ally themselves with, etc. these know-little 'conservatives?' Especially with respect to 'economic issue$'..As I have stated many times before, I've never met even one 'economic conservative' who can honestly describe the origin, nature, etc. of even one 'dollar!'..despite their tendency to work their loud cupcake chutes about some illion-'dollar' eCONnomy!.. ;o)

Btw, A. SCOTT, I'd have a hard time supporting any former long-time US mercenary for 'high public office'..It would seem to me anyone knowledgeable/exceptional enough to hold 'high public office' who was 'in the military'-for even one two-year stint-ought to have been able to figure out that 'the world corporate police/mercenary corps/etc.' are a miserable abomination..and have been for decades..at least..

Sorry about the bluntness and maybe you could persuade me otherwise but..one of the things that attracted me to honest 'libertarianism' was the tendency of my favorites to declare bold truths.. ;o)

And we wonder why many don't take us seriously?

We wonder why the only time we get decent press is when reporters need a talking-head to talk about legalizing pot?

Look no further...

Mr. Redpath: Please don't do this again.

LP Blog: If he does, don't publicize it.

kthxbye

Congratulation to Clark on making good points other than the nature of a dollar!

I forget where I saw recently, but I did, that Libertarians are not fiscally 'conservative,' they are fiscally 'libertarian.' The difference is that libertarian economics focus on the freedom for people not to support efforts they oppose - whereas conservative economics work to keep the good-old-boys from sharing the fruits of their exploitation.

PHIL GOMES WROTE: We wonder why the only time we get decent press is when reporters need a talking-head to talk about legalizing pot?

lol!..and the Republicrat talking heads RARELY get this right!..as with most everything else..

Using stinking words like "legalization" implies we get 'privileges' from some master(s) to conduct what is obviously an 'individual right'..the 'right'/responsibility/etc. of self-medication, ingestion, etc..

I want 'repeal' of their hideously counter-productive Republicrat drug laws/war..not some stinking, Republicrat 'legalization'..

(but..Republicrats and knowledgeable folks too, it would seem obvious that all these issues pale in comparison to the $ini$ter working$ of your secret squirrel banksters!) (;o)

Now, wait a second, A. Scott! I am a libertarian AND a librarian! Librarians are among the most vocal supporters of First Amendment rights. I'm not so sure about the number of librarian-supporters for the Second Amendment. I loved the interview, even though (or maybe especially because) I have had pet rabbits!

P.S. Libertarians aren't the same as libertines either.

And Clark doesn't like money as it has evolved? That makes him a "conservative", right?

Posted by: James R. at December 10, 2007 09:05 PM

Libertarians are unusually aware of myriad reasons for dissatisfaction with leadership; it has become a habit with some of us. I just wish the targets were chosen more carefully, more of the time.

Mr. Redpath's foray into leporine journalism is not among the good reasons for anger among freedom-lovers.*

I enjoyed the interview, and I am pleased with it. Humor does not signify disrespect, minimization, or flippancy. Humor is human, and it is vital to humanity. It is a rich and refreshing medium of communication that reaches people who have tuned out seriousness and surliness. Humor is uniquely equipped to offer perspective to the receptive.

Compulsive humorlessness is one expression of fear -- fear that others will discover that one is irrelevant, impotent, or disingenuous. Libertarians need have no such fears. We have nothing to hide.

I especially enjoyed Mr. Redpath's oh-so-politic avoidance of the bomblet dropped by Chou Chou about hunting. The awkward sidestepping, via a convenient irrelevancy, was a lovely satire of the equivocation that has long been fashionable (indeed, necessary) among Those Other Politicians! Plus, it was fun to watch him squirm.

Mr. Chairman, as ever, you represent Libertarians with resourcefulness, aplomb, intelligence, diplomacy, wit, and a refreshing willingness to be lighthearted. Way to think outside the box! (I refer to that annoying box with the walls built of ballot inaccessibility and other little considerations engineered by entrenched statists.) As long as Libertarians remain committed to abiding by laws passed by antagonistic and exclusionary authoritarians, creativity will remain paramount in our strongbox.

I am proud to claim Mr. Redpath as ours. Thanks to him for taking the risk.

Kirsten Milligan

*Nor, I believe, is the career of a courageous patriot who chose to recoup some of his taxes in exchange for the risk of life and sacrifice of health -- with motivations that, however obscured by extrinsic factors, may yet have included a sense of commitment to national defense -- one of the few functions of the United States government authorized by the Constitution. The way "mercenary" is used in a previous comment, anyone who accepts money in exchange for any good or service is a mercenary. That's pretty much everyone but children, welfare recipients, and the disabled. And that's a pretty irresponsible use of the English language, and of this site.

JAMES R. CRACKED: "And Clark doesn't like money as it has evolved? That makes him a "conservative", right?

Remember, JAMES R., according to your dictionary, not your stinking Republican cheerleaders, pecksniffs, etc., "conservatives" are advocates of the status quo, existing institutions, etc..

That's CERTAINLY not what I advocate..dummy..

I, among many things, advocate a completely TRANSPARENT, LOGICAL, egalitarian, etc. system of 'money issuance'/creation, administration, etc...not the stinking system we have today where YOU and %99.99 of your boob-tube watching Republicrats have no honest clue what's going on!..(as a 'monetary realist' it's fun to publicly ask money ignoramusses like JAMES R. questions such as, "what is 'it,' precisely, we use as money?"..who issues/creates 'it' and how does 'it' get into circulation?..how many 'dollars' are there?..etc..it's great fun to watch the loud, Republicrat mule-lopers squirm!..)

..and remember, admitting/acknowledging your absolute ignorance is the first step towards honest enlightenment!.. (;o)

(maybe dummy's a government-schooled 'eCONomist'..i've found them particularly the absolute thickest of 'monetary realism' $tudents!)

But thank-you for your readership..poor as it is..keep plugging..stick in there..

"Just like in ice cream, some think that there are only two flavors, chocolate and vanilla. When there's not, there's... strawberry." And now, live from 30 miles down the road from a brothel he's never been to, the chairman of the Strawberry Party, Mr. William Redpath!

It was great to see a couple talk show hosts who were really all ears for the libertarian message!

http://www.salon.com/ent/video_dog/comedy/2007/12/03/rabbitbites/index.html

Seriously, I'm proud of our national chair for having the courage to talk with a couple of naked cuties, "Buns" & "Chou Chou". Those Libertarians too concerned about keeping a "grownup" image would have missed out on the fun. And you know what? When you're obsessed with being taken seriously, it's harder for people to take you seriously! Instead, you become an easy target for comedians. I say let's have more rabbit interviews. Bill could have loosened up his tie a bit though. Maybe next time he should hit the brothel first.

Posted by: Starchild at December 12, 2007 06:10 PM

STARCHILD WROTE: "..Bill could have loosened up his tie a bit though..."

Yeah, what is it with political operatives and monkey suits?

You'd think more of them would've figured out by now that most voters don't wear monkey suits!..some even discern a tendency of monkey-suit wearers to be despicable louts who acquire their federal reserve tokens ('dollars' to most/all Republicrat mullets) through fraud, etc. debauchery!..certainly not honest work..

I find it stoooooooooooooooopid that 'Libertarian' operative$, politicians, etc.--hopefully trying to distinguish themselves as 'unique' and 'new' etc. while trying to gain rapport with people/voters--would copy the puppet-head attire of the ill-reputed, money-suited Republicrats!
