HUGE MISTAKE
The Libertarian party is making a huge mistake not coming out and supporting Ron Paul as a Republican.
By being a Republican Ron Paul was able to get into the debates and get his message heard which is really the Libertarian message. Pure genius!!!I say drop the Libertarian candidates and support Ron Paul for president.
The party name means nothing. It is about getting a president who believes in the constitution.
I agree, Mark, but what if Paul does not get the Republican nomination?
First, Ron Paul rejected the LNC's offer to run as a Libertarian. It is fun to watch Ron Paul spammers e-mail Glenn Beck or the LP when Ron Paul rejected both their offers.
Second, It is funny that people who claim to have such a great respect for our Constitution want to violate our party ByLaws in the same manner Congress has violated the Constitution. The LNC cannot endorse Ron Paul. In fact, in my opinion they went too far with this resolution and their previous actions towards the current Libertarian Party Presidential candidates.
It also means that the LP will throw away support for any of the current true Libertarian Party candidates at a moments notice. Sorry Wayne, Mike, Daniel, Christine, etc.
I think it's great that the LP is following the Constitution Partie's example and paying homage to Ron Paul's Campaign. After all he is a Libertarian Party Member.
However I do agree with Mark S. in the sense that we should endorse him as a Republican. If he does not win the nomination it would be desingenuous to the already existing candidates for him to run.
No matter though, he has refused the offer anyway. It's still good to know the LP supports Paul and perhaps, if he gets the Nomination nod, we can all support him based on principle; not on party lines.
Ron Paul is reminding poeple about the LP.
I have been a Libertarian since I first heard Harry Browne speak in '95.
I singed up with the LP (boasting over 35,000 members) at that time and was a member for 4 years.
The problem I ran into is that even the LP deosn't believe in itself. Everyone I spoke with in the higher ups of this organization would say things like "we need to discover Libertarians, not create them" and "realistically, we need to concentrate locally...etc". THen project Archimedes was scrapped and then the party basically wen silentt and.........
Then, I heard about Ron Paul running for president and my heart leapt for joy. That man has done more for the constitution and personal freedoms in the last 10 months than the entire LP has done in the last 12 years.
End of story.
Don't like Ron Pauls abortion stance? Well if that's all you care about, you are a mental midget and should not vote. It is a non-issue. How ofen in your life will this ever even be an issue. It is OVERBLOWN! Furthermore, You'll never again find a pro-lifer who wants to leave it to the states to decide.
So this seperation that some in this organization want to foment between the LP and Ron Paul is stupid and represents the failure of this organization.
I no longer support Cato and Neil Boortz is about as libertarian as Bill O'rielly and Bill Maher!
I have been very critical of the LP for not advertising enough or becoming more well known with the money people send. This announcement has gotten the LP more recognition than any ad and it was free. That's the creative thinking I've been calling for. Finally!
I really believe we will get more people interested in the LP and libertarianism in general by letting everyone know that Ron Paul is ours as much as he is the GOP's if not moreso. If every Republican were like Ron Paul, the LP wouldn't have been started and we'd all be in that party. Don't forget that. OK, most of us.
I'm a staunch Libertarian & supporter of the Libertarian Party, being a dues-paying member since 2000. I've also been a dues-paying member of my state, Pennsylvania LP. I voted for Harry Browne in 2000, the first time I was able to vote for president, being 27 years old now, & also voted for Badnarik in '04.
I want to applaud the LNC for their efforts in support of Ron Paul & applaud the LP for their support, including their recent announcement of the use of the Ballot Base program for making Ron Paul phone calls in the NH primary.
I sincerely believe that the Ron Paul campaign is a great benefit to the LP. He has awakened many people to the message of liberty & freedom. This can possibly result in many people discovering & joining the LP & will undoubtedly help with LP vote totals across the board in the 2008 elections. Many people who never paid much attention to Libertarian candidates may now do so, when they realize that their message is the same as Ron Paul's. I, of course, hope that if Paul fails to win the GOP nomination that he seeks the LP nomination; this would be an enormous benefit to the LP. The LP would receive the highest vote total ever for a Libertarian presidential candidate, it would bring in countless thousands to the LP, it would allow Paul to continue his campaign & deliver his message of freedom till the November election and it would keep the Ron Paul Revolution going for several more months in the event he loses the GOP nomination.

I've been a dues paying member since 1980 when I met Ron Paul for the first time (although I let my membership expire a couple of years ago). He ran as a Libertarian and got about as much media as any Libertarian candidate, practically zero. Regarding the current crop of candidates; face it folks, hardly anyone will vote for a no-name nobody with no political experience. I would support and donate to any of the LP presidential candidates if they dropped their presidential hopes and ran for local offices where they belong, at least for the moment.
Okay, Clark. I'll do my best to pick my way through your little smilies and emoticons.
I say to support Ron Paul until he resigns from the Republican Party. If he is nominated, the Libertarian Party will temporally cease this/next year and pull all of its support behind Paul. If the nomination goes to someone else, offer the LP nomination to Paul. If he doesn't want it, then choose the nomination as before. Libertarianism is a philosphy more than a party (which I have), and Paul has the same philosphy as I.

I'M A REGISTERED REPUBLICAN WHO IS TOTALY DISGUSTED WITH THE PARTY TO THE POINT OF NO LONGER VOTING.I BELIEVE IN FREEDOM AND LIBERTY AS YOUR PARTY CLAIMS TO BE.I WAS HOPING TO BE INSPIRED BY YOUR WEBSITE AND MESSAGE AND VISION BUT YOU ALL SEEM TO HAVE NO DIRECTION OR PLAN TO GET THE MESSAGE OUT.25.OO DOLLAR MEMBERSHIP FOR WHAT??HOW DO YOU PLAN TO REACH AMERICAN VOTERS?DO YOU EVEN HAVE A PLAN?FORGIVE ME FOR SAYING THIS BUT THIS SEEMS LIKE A BIG JOKE!I MEAN AT THE TOP OF THE HOME PAGE CONCERNING THE PRESIDENTIAL CANIDATES IT READS ]LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!] YOU PEOPLE HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!YOU NEED TO DO MUCH BETTER THAN THIS TO GET MY SUPPORT.
Nice press release from LP HQ blasting Huckabee.
All Fiscal Cons and Libertarians need to unite behind one candidate to ward off the Huck-Monster. He is everything that we oppose - "fiscally liberal and socially conservative." Huck? Double - Yuck!
I'm a big "Libertarian for Giuliani." Have been for over a year.
But even I'm willing to switch to Romney if it would help unite all Fiscal Cons behind one candidate to challenge Huckabee. National Review, the icon for libertarian conservatives, recently endorsed Romney. And libertarian Republican Bill Weld is formally backing him.
The Ron Paul people need to wake up and realize that this Huckabee threat is for real. Paul is way behind other Fiscal Cons like Giuliani, Romney and even Fred Thompson in the polls.
If we all don't agree on one candidate soon - the Thompson people, the Romney people, the Giuliani people, AND the Paul people - we're screwed!
We need to transform the current LP into the type of organization that all of these Ron Paul supporters can join in future years. They aren't going to accept an insular party like we have now.

Marc Emery talks about Liberty and Ron Paul
Marc Emery discusses his personal battles for Liberty, the Ron Paul campaign and what he and others are doing to help. Marc currently faces extradition to the United States where he faces a possible life sentence on charges of selling marijuana seeds and using the profits to fund pro-cannabis legalization activities. His outspoken advocacy in favor of legalizing cannabis led the media, beginning with the Seattle Post-Intelligencer (later picked up by Bernard Shaw of CNN), to dub him “The Prince of Pot,” a nickname he embraces heartily.
David Nolan on the Libertarian Party, Ron Paul, and the Future of Politics
David Nolan offered a fascinating perspective on the Ron Paul phenomenon and how it will change America. David Nolan founded the Libertarian Party in 1971. He subsequently served the party in a number of roles including National Chair, editor of the party newsletter, chairman of the By-laws Committee, chairman of the Judicial Committee, and Chairman of the Platform Committee. Nolan is also known as the inventor of the Nolan Chart.
George Phillies and Keith Stroup
Some tech problems at first. You can fast forward for about 9 minutes, but Steve wings it with two great interviews. At 9:09 is George Phillies, who is also seeking the LP Presidential nomination,– then at 9:30 Keith Stroup, the founder of NORML.
Shane Cory, Cliff Schaffer
(Fast forward for about 5 minutes to get past the tech confusion.) Shane Cory, Executive Director of the Libertarian Party, discussing the LP’s controversial invitation to Ron Paul to seek the LP Presidential nomination, and Cliff Schaffer of MarijuanaBusinessNews.com, with some really provocative views.
Leading from the Front Lines
On this show we discussed the Libertarian Party National Committee’s controversial invitation to Ron Paul to seek the LP presidential nomination. Steve Kubby wants the Libertarian Party and movement to lead the country from the front lines in the battle for individual freedom, especially in the drug war which criminalizes millions of Americans. Kubby has survived the attempts by two countries to kill him. He knows that freedom is not an abstract concept.
The First Steve Kubby Show
PLEASE NOTE: There is a 3 minute delay because of technical problems.
Richard Cowan of MarijuanaNews.com hosts the Steve Kubby Show. Steve is seeking the Libertarian Party Presidential nomination. Steve is a medical marijuana patient/activist who ran as the Libertarian candidate for Governor in Calif. in 1998. He spent several years as a medical marijuana refugee in Canada. He knows first hand the importance of freedom.
Kubby for President
On August 26th, 2006, surrounded by leaders of America's drug reform movement, Steve Kubby announced his candidacy for the presidency of the United States. Speaking to 50,000 fans of freedom at Hempfest, he stated "I'm running for President because I'm fed up with bad government, corrupt politicians, and arrogant officials. Like you, I'd like the government to support my liberty, protect and serve my family, respect my personal property and stop passing and enforcing laws that assume Americans have the intelligence of a child." Since announcing, Steve has campaigned in California, Washington and Colorado while he works on creating the organization that will run a national campaign -- not just to elect Steve Kubby, but to take America back, restore the Bill of Rights, and set our nation back on a course of freedom and prosperity.
I chief wana dubie have decided to throw my hat back into the political arena, but this time for governor. It was the governors office that declaired war on drugs and the citizens of this great state by joining the moral majorities war against the minorities.I believe this to be fascism and unconstitutional. So it will take the governors office to end it. Dubie vs Blunt'08 Dubie or not dubie its time for that question? visit www.chiefwanadubie.com
Cheif wannadubie? O.K. I don't care who you are that's just funny.
I have continuously voted libertarian since 1973 when I turned 18. The party is a tragic failure. Ron Paul is a flawed libertarian, but he's the first pol to speak our language and have an impact. Every single libertarian should do whatever it takes to vote for Dr. Paul in the primary. If that means registering as a Republican, for god's sake do it!! This dithering about "bylaws" and other nonsense is so pathetic and typical of the LP's failure to ever accomplish jack dookie.
Look people, this is not some effing parlor game! Innocent men and women are in the grave or rotting in prison cells while we dither and split hairs. Finally after all these years, we have a chance to actually restore some precious liberty to our nation. WE NEED TO VOTE FOR RON!!! EVERY SINGLE GOD-DERNED ONE OF US!!! NO EFFING EXCUSES!!!!!
And donate to his campaign too. DIG DEEP!!! I have.
6 million in a day! Ron Paul just broke every record, and the media has yet to report it.
I'd like to see the LP raise that in a decade.
ERIC DONDERO HALLUCINATED: "All Fiscal Cons and Libertarians need to unite behind one candidate to ward off the Huck-Monster. He is everything that we oppose - "fiscally liberal and socially conservative." Huck? Double - Yuck!
I'm a big "Libertarian for Giuliani." Have been for over a year." (END..thankfully!)
My aching Christ! How could any "Libertarian" support authoritarian know-littles like Rudy Jew and Nitwit Mitt!..
..And "fi$cal conservatives?!?" PLEASE, ERIC, before throwing around STINKING Republicrat eCONomic terminology such as this..at LEAST learn a little as to the nature, origin, etc. of those stinking 'dollars' about which I sense you frequently fret, wag your tongue, etc!.. ;o)
(Nitwit Mitt has apparently been a very succesful bu$ine$$man..and to think this $lick Republican wea$el has been doing all this 'business'..absent an honest understanding of the nature, origin, etc. of 'that' with which he has been doing all that bu$ine$$!..)
Btw, methinks, heck meknows, Ron Paul is fundamentally flawed in his 'understanding' of 'money'..maybe we all are..but--and this is the BIG! BUT..Ron Paul appears to be a HUGE supporter of COMPLETE TRANSPARENCY as to 'the administration of money'..honest dialogue, etc..that's all this monetary realist needs, for now, to be VERY HAPPY with RON PAUL'S stance on 'money'..my all-time favorite national politician!!..by a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG shot!) ;o)
Huckabee is using the word Freedom to have a money bomb day on Dec 27th. We can't let this happen. Any Ron Paul supporters out there, let's beat him in a showdown and show everyone how it's done. I'm going on every blog imaginable to spread the word. Help me out. Let's beat this a-hole on his own day.
Ron Paul 08
Ok, I've been reading the post here for a couple of days now, and though I normally don't participate in blogs, I think its time for me to put in my two cents.
In my opinion, the people who advocate quitting this election cycle and supporting Ron Paul are misguided. Even electing a Libertarian as president will not instantly change our country overnight. The President is not a dictator, no matter how much Bush tries to be. As president, Ron Paul could veto bills, and introduce new ones into Congress. But it is Congress that makes the laws, and Congress will still be controlled by the Republicrats. Though we may make some strides towards freedom, don't expect anything to happen overnight.
What really worries me is the potential negatie impacts on the LP if Ron does win the Republican nomination. Ballot access is a continuios battle for us, and staying on the ballot is crucial to the Party's success. Those of you who recieved that letter reguarding the petition to Ron Paul should pull it out and look at it again. It mentions that North Carolina has a 2% retention threshold, meaning that once we get back on the ballot there, we need to achieve 2% of the vote in a statewide race to remain on the ballot. I HIGHLY doubt this is tru only for NC. I'll bet many states have rentention thresholds, and to meet them, we need to achiove a certin percentage of the votes in a staewide racer, such as the presidential elections. If we pull out of this election, we could potentially lose ballot access in severl states and as NC proves, once we lose ballot access, it will be very hard to regain it.
Finally, you people need to realize something. The Libertarin Party is a MINOR POLITICAL PARTY! Since we were small enough to fit in one mans living room in 1971, we have grown into the largest and most powerful of the MINOR parties in the U.S. However, we are still a minor party, so what we can achieve is, not very much. Also, it IS a political party, and needs to be run as such. That means we need to run our own canidates, not endorse another parties canidate. The party name does mean something, as I pointed out earlier reguarding ballot acess. Fourtunantly, the LNC seems to understand this, and is acting acoordingly. UN-Fourtunantly, its voter base does not. I'm really worried about how the Ron Paul Revolution will affect the Lp in 08.
Free Al.
Everybody knows Ron Paul can't change things overnight, neither could a Libertarian Candidate. The point is that if we do elect him, it will be the largest victory libertarians have had since the founding of this country.
The LP wont have a chance of winning for another few decades, Ron Paul is running now... as a Libertarain Party member none the less.
How can we not support him, it is the same... if not important than supporting this paries nominee.
At least Ron Paul has somewhat of a chance at winning.
And what makes you think this will hurt the LP... we may not do well this time around (not much we can do the change that anyway) but if he wins (even the nomination) do you have any idea how much it will help us in later elections. Have you even seen his supporters and how much money they raised for him?
This may be our last hope of getting noticed, having a chance, and electing someone who won't destroy the founding principles of this nation, but will instead defend them... even if it is as unsuccesful as this Partie's many tries.
Please vote for Ron Paul... it may be a long shot but it is still a shot.
I think Free Al has a point here. The LP may benefit from having someone like Ron Paul around, but if we lose cohesiveness as a party, we may be in trouble. It is a small party. Many victories for the party are won at a small local level. One cannot put all of one's eggs into one basket. after all, ballot access.
So what are you first, a libertarian, or a Libertarian? Do you put party loyalty before loyalty to this country and your core principles?
This Party will have more members after a Ron Paul win. And even if he doesn't he can point his supporters in our direction. That would help us tremendously.
IT IS BETTER TO HAVE SOMEONE IN OFFICE TO GET MOST OF OUR FREEDOM BACK THEN END UP WITH ANOTHER SOCIALIST PERIOD. LOOK AT THE FACTS> A TRUE LIBERTARIAN CANDIDATE IS NOT GOING TO MAKE IT. AT LEAST SOME HOPE WITH RON PAUL. I DO NOT LIKE HIS ABORTION STANCE EITHER, BUT WE HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE BEFORE WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING PERIOD. ONCE THIS COUNTRY BECOME A TIGHT SOCIALIST, FORGET IT, WE ARE DONE AS A COUNTRY.
RON PAUL makes a good point. I am pretty nervous about where this country is headed. maybe it's just that i live in a very liberal area but it looks like hillary has a strong chance and that wouldn't be good for anyone. I don't know what to make of the current political situation. On the one hand Ron Paul is definitely the closest household name candidate to the libertarian ideal. On the other hand, is there any grounds behind Free Al's idea that putting all our eggs in the Ron Paul basket could hurt ballot access for the LP. If someone could point me in the direction of facts on this issue i would be most thankful.
The main thing here is we wish to preserve our freedoms. I'm concerned of late as to the direction our right to bear arms is going. Honestly without that one, the other freedoms are not real.
MAYBE IF I USE ALL CAPITAL LETTERS AND SPAM THE LP BLOG PEOPLE WILL TAKE ME SERIOUSLY!!!
LOL! ..have any of you decent, gentle people noticed the near-complete 'stifling' of RON PAUL that these STINKING Republicrats have undertaken as to online, 'debate polls'--etc. online polls?
I sometimes must hear one of the herd members of stinking, loud, know-little, Republican radio cheerleaders..A stinking Nitwit Mitt Romney rumpswab..stinking...he always left RON PAUL off his stinking online poll..now he just doesn't have polls!..
What a stinking group of cowardly, ignorant, blowhards!..these stinking Republicrats! );o(
You guys do make a good point about Ron Paul having a better chance than any cnaidate the Lp is likely to get, and if he does win, I have no doubt that SOME of our freedoms will be restored. The way I see it, we have a choice to make. We can try to conserve what we have and vote for LP canidates, thus helping to insure we meet the retention threshold can continue running in stae and local races,
OR
we can take a chance, vote for Ron Paul, and risk losing ballot access for a chance to put a libertarian in the Oval Office. The scenario I fear is: What if we all vote for Ron in the general election, and he still doesn't win? Then, we would have lost the presidential race, AND failed to get the required percentage of the vote to stay on state ballots. That would be a complete disaster for the LP.
I'll definitally vote for Paul in the primary, but I haven't made up my mind about the General Election. While the potential gain is worth the risk, I'm still a little hesitant about the potential loss.
I WANT TO CORRECT. I forget to add FOR Ron Paul. Not just his name. Just making this correction.
If you think this makes sense, pass it on, if not delete it. I think Libertarians would support this kind of action, as it does not involve any legislation, or government regulation.
Are you tired of the way Corporate America treats its employees like expensive overhead, and not like the valuable asset they are? Isn't there a better way to determine the compensation for someone who works and produces value than 'as little as you can get away with,' while the owners and managers compensate themselves 'as much as they can get away with'. Do you approve of the way Corporations like Pfizer, and Wal Mart use Imminent Domain to legally appropriate valuable property from lower and middle class families. In short do you approve of the systematic concentration of wealth in this country? Where those with money use their money to exploit their fellow human beings, and destroy the environment for personal profit? If you want to know what happens to an economy where wealth is concentrated, just look south of the border. Now Corporate America wants to import cheap desperate labor so they can replicate the experiment in Mexico here in America.
So now to my point. How much stock do you own in Corporate America? Would you be willing to accept a lower return on your investment by investing according to your personal morality? Maybe it would make a difference, maybe it wouldn't. I don't believe I am the only person that believes I should invest according to my personal morals regardless of whether it makes a difference of not, nor whether it raises or lowers my returns.
How can I invest according to my morals? I don't know of any way at present that I could with confidence invest my retirement account ethically. But I believe there are some ethical publicly owned companies that can compete. Business Ethics magazine recently published its list of 2006's Best Corporate Citizens. Here are the top 10 firms (you'll find the entire list at www.business-ethics.com): Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Hewlett-Packard, Advanced Micro Devices, Motorola, Agilent Technologies, Timberland, Salesforce.com, Cisco Systems, Dell and Texas Instruments.
If you're interested in investing in socially responsible companies, check out some mutual funds that focus on them. You can learn more at www.socialfunds.com and at the Web sites of firms that run responsible funds, such as www.calvert.com, www.domini.com and www.paxworld.com. Other sites with info on these kinds of firms are www.socialinvest.org and www.goodmoney.com.
Ralph Nader, or someone else with as much credibility with Organized Labor, and Environmental groups, could devise a grading system for different variables as regards to employee compensation and safety, and environmental concerns. And in partnership with an established investment house, establish a family of mutual funds where these ethical concerns are important considerations for including a company, and how much of its stock in the funds portfolio. A diverse rang of funds so American investors can vote with their money as to just what ethics are important to them.
Liberal Hollywood, and other wealthy people, who are people of conciense, put up the cash for these funds to get started. In short, put your money where your mouth is. Then use your star power to get other people aware of what you are doing. I believe the American people are at least as moral as I am about this. I know I would put all my 401K funds into ethical mutual funds. Imagine what would happen if everybody did that. Do you want to make a REAL DIFFERENCE?
Religious leaders, surely this is morality that you can endorse. Surely a person who profits from exploitation shares in the responsibility. If you are invested in corporations that exploit, and your portfolio grows because of that exploitation, you are guilty of exploitation. You don't have to provide a solution, just bring up the subject and discuss it with your congregation. Maybe they will have some good ideas.
If we as citizens begin to ask for mutual funds that consider ethical issues, the investment community will give them to us.
Democrats and other liberals need to stop trying to legislate their morality, and start living it. We need to give up dependence on government action, and take personal action.
Republicans and conservatives need to realize that exploiting their fellow humans and the environment for personal profit is as bas or worse than most of the "vices" they judge and condemn others for.
We all need to take a long hard and honest look at how we make our wealth, and make sure it is consistent with our own personal ethical standards.
Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now.
OK, think about this when deciding whether or not to vote for Ron Paul.
He knows what its like for third parties to get ballot access and get into debates and get mainstream media coverage. If he is elected, since he is an LP member himself, what makes you think he won't at least try to get third parties involved more in the process? He would not object to other parties being in debates for the general election. He would not object to other parties getting easier ways to get on ballots than some of the impossible restrictions that exist in some places, Oklahoma comes to mind.
Ron Paul, even as a Republican president or even just as the nominee can do big things for all third parties when it comes to the election process which is where we struggle the most, because we have the best ideas and the smartest people yet we are handcuffed. Ron Paul can unlock our cuffs and let us participate. If you think any of the other Reps and Dems will even consider that, you're blind. Why would they? They don't care about liberty. But, Ron does, and it helps the freedom message that he strives for if the LP is allowed to participate.
His help should not be requested, however, during this election cycle. Everyone should throw their entire support behind him because if he doesn't WIN the election, you can forget any help down the road from the eventual winner or the big two parties because they will just revert back to leaving us out. He must win and it will take every vote we have here and all our efforts to make it happen. He is our last best chance to be allowed in to the process. Otherwise we will struggle by ourselves for another 30 years.
When I say we shouldn't ask for his help this election cycle, I mean for presidential candidate access, but some of our candidates for Congress might actually be able to get an endorsement from him. He's gonna need Congresspersons on his side if he wins, so it would behoove him to help us, and for us to help him get elected...so he can then help us, as president where he will do good things, and as third party advocate.
I think one of the things that the LP can do, prior to nominating its own candidate for President, is to endorse suitable candidates for other parties' nominations. Ron Paul for the GOP's for example. Who would we prefer (if anyone) to win the Democrat nomination?
Wouldn't it be wonderful if both of the major and several of the minor candidates leaned heavily in the libertarian direction? I'd love to vote in an election where my choices were more libertarian or less libertarian, but still libertarian. LP endorsements of other parties' candidates for THEIR nominations, could help inform libertarian-leaning voters in the other parties, both about the candidates and about the alternative that the LP offers, if and when the liberty-friendly candidate in the major party fails to be nominated. I've been with the LP since the early 1980s, and do NOT want to see it become GOP-lite or Demo-lite; but endorsing other parties' candidates and supporting them for their own parties' nominations seems OK to me. Not that I would put such an activity ahead of recruiting, grooming, selecting, and running our OWN candidates. I still think that, as a general rule, the MOST libertarian candidate on the ballot ought to be the standard bearer for the LP. But to the extent that sincere activists can spare the time and resources, agitating to get more libertarian-leaning people into positions of power and candidacy in the other parties seems like a reasonable thing to do. Some libertarians would prefer to do that by being actual members of the other parties, and good luck to them (I'm not very hopeful about the "changing from within" strategy). But even loyal LP members should be able to recommend and support the most libertarian Demo or Republican without the sky falling.
I do think that "Libertarians for Giuliani" is far too much of a stretch, though. ;-)
Stephen Lawhorn
Okay the day i want Ralph Nader doing my ethical research for me i will have a toe tag on me in a cool dark place! People individually have to decide for themselves what companies are more "ethical". You might place environmentalism higher than i would. I Might choose any company that functions well and fairly without a labor union. Who is right here!
Do you really trust anyone to rate morality for the masses? This line might work with Greens and college kids, but i don't see many takers here. The strongest point about libertarians is that we don't see things in terms of collective morality. I personally am a godless atheist who sees nothing wrong with being sexually intiate with whoever is willing. Other libertarians will kindly inform me of the hellfire i am destined toward.
The point is that as a party we stand for individual reality. The christian holds that i am wrong. I hold that the christian is wrong. I disagree with environmentalism, but we don't demand agreement on moral issues.
It is for this reason, i can't support the idea of Someone rating companies in terms of ethics for me.
sorry i said we stand for individual reality.
I meant individual morality.
It's not about party labels, it's about restoring the Constitution as our governing document. I'm sick and tired of the choice being socialism or fascism. Whether Ron Paul is a Green, Democrat, Libertarian or Republican makes no difference. Heck, I don't even care if he collects used bandages, just as long as his views on the role of government are correct. Sure, he probably won't get the nomination because Romney intends to buy it, but let's cross that bridge when we get there. For now we libertarians have HOPE in one of the two parties the media accepts as legitimate. Let's give him all the support we can until the battle is lost.
I SAY SOME OF THE HARD CORE LIBERTARIAN SHOULD SWALLOW THEIR PRIDE AND VOTE RON PAUL.
We have lost freedom, jobs and we are getting posion from China, toys, dog food, basil got recalled because of samonella from Mexico. Yet! we have taxes up to the ying yang and codes, regulations and rules to keep us from having good foods here or making things safe, because the government knows what best for us. Do the government care. NOOOOOOOO. It is way too late when the damage is already done. Hell, they don't even check carefully enough for mad cow. Yet we have to pay more for organic foods when the food should be good to eat in the first place. Then they want to worry about our soft drinks, and tax that as well. San Francisco for example. They want to tell us what to eat. Soooo controdictory don't you think. (SOCIALISM)
They are soo concerned about abortion and yet they are killing us anyways with the posion foods and toys. Forcable new types of vacination. Forcing kids who may not be ADD to take drugs. A kid cannot be a kid these days. IF WE END UP WITH ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT. There will be no place to run. Welcome to V FOR VENDETTA.
TIME FOR RON PAUL
FOR RON PAUL spells like a Republicrat!
Sure makes me want to do an Atlas Shrugged style retreat.
It would be in the best interest of securing the future of our party, the LP, to pull its nomination out of the race and put its full support behind Ron Paul. Along with the media attention of an announcement like this, the additional contributions and votes of the LP would be a huge addition to the already exploding support of Ron Paul.
With this man in office, our philosophies with flourish and America will prosper.
* will flourish..
In addition, in case you're wondering how this will help our party, once the People get a taste of what a Libertarian society is like, we will watch our numbers soar.
Hope everyone has a great holiday.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
