LP Monday Message: Candidates, Campaigns, Polls, Fundraising

September 20, 2010

Dear Friend of Liberty,

We have a great slate of over 800 Libertarian candidates for the upcoming November elections. Many of them are looking for more coverage on our website, in our emails, and in LP News. They want publicity, donations and help. That’s a good thing.

Unfortunately, there’s just too much information about our candidates for us to convey directly. And even though there are probably a hundred candidates around the country who would be happy to email all Libertarians nationwide each week, we know that you might not appreciate getting that much unsolicited email.

We have to rely on our state and local affiliates to provide announcements about the campaigns. I also encourage you to seek out candidates you might be interested in, and get more information. You can visit all 800 candidates listed here. Some of them have websites with email announcements you can sign up for.

Even though it’s impossible to give you a picture of what’s going on with all our candidates, I would like to pass along some notes about a few of this year’s campaigns. (The selection of campaigns is arbitrary, but hopefully interesting, even if you live in a different state.)

Chuck Donovan, running for U.S. Senate in Georgia, has produced and will be running a TV ad. His campaign points out the ad cost around $500 to produce and commercials can be run for surprisingly little, such as $26 on CNN.

Alexander Snitker, for U.S. Senate in Florida, released An Open Letter to the Tea Parties of Florida. Wayne Allyn Root mentions the Snitker campaign on "Captain’s America" radio show.

Curtis Harris is running "Against Congress" in Colorado.

Robert Nowotny is running for Texas State House, and is trying to raise $4,000 to robo-call his district. Texas icon Kinky Friedman has endorsed Nowotny and agreed to use his name and voice on the calls.

Mike Beitler continues to poll 6% for U.S. Senate in North Carolina.

Norm Westwell is an elected school trustee in California running for City Council.

Bill Yarbrough is running for State Senate in Ohio and recently bought spots for his radio ad.

A recent Gallup poll says "Americans Renew Call for Third Party." Last weekend we offered to send 1,000 free door hangers to all 800 Libertarian candidates to assist their campaigns and to help make sure the LP grows. It’s just a small amount of help, but over 100 candidates have taken us up on the offer. Of course I hope that you will participate in this Quiz Across America door hanger effort to promote our candidates and party as well. That’s why we sent that additional Rush Order email this morning. Thanks for all that you are doing.

Sincerely,

Wes Benedict
Executive Director
Libertarian National Committee

P.S. If you have not already done so, please join the Libertarian Party. We are the only political party dedicated to free markets and civil liberties. You can also renew your membership. Or, you can make a contribution separate from membership.
