Wyoming LP attains major party status

The Wyoming Libertarian Party has attained major party status for the second time in its history.

To attain or retain major party status, a candidate running for Governor, Secretary of State, or the US House of Representatives must get at least 10%. Kit Carson, the LPWY candidate for Secretary of State, got 10.7% in a 3-way race with a Republican and Constitution Party candidate. A major party in Wyoming nominates by primary.

The last time the LPWY had major party status was in 2002, when the candidate for Secretary of State, Dennis Brossman, received 17% in a 2-way race.

Minor parties in Wyoming are those whose candidate for Governor, Secretary of State, or Governor get at least 2%, but less than 10%. Minor parties nominate by convention.
