LP Monday Message: Looking ahead

November 15, 2010

Dear Friend of Liberty,

We are still compiling and analyzing the election results from November 2 so that we can compare them in detail to previous years.

We’ve received comments from candidates around the U.S. They range from "I won re-election" to "I thought I would win" to "I thought I would do better." One of my favorite responses is "I’m going to run again now that I know what I’m doing." Several states have reported improvement over previous election cycles.

One candidate from earlier in the year recently wrote, "After my crushing defeat here in Southwest Washington I was able to campaign and win the Chairmanship of my Neighborhood Association."

That’s a message every candidate and activist can keep in mind. Win or lose, our candidates build name recognition, make connections, and often become sought after for help on local issues.

The Travis County Texas Libertarians recently posted this.

It’s never too soon to start preparing for the next election. 2011 is right around the corner. In odd-numbered years, we typically have lots of candidates for local elections, and those are the ones we have higher chances of winning. Our list of Elected Officials (which we’re still updating with recent results) is here.

If you are interested in running for office, please fill out this form.

The Libertarian National Committee will hold its next meeting this weekend in New Orleans at the Historic Hilton on St. Charles Ave. Most LNC leaders will be there. As a reminder, LNC leaders are unpaid volunteers and pay their own travel and lodging expenses for these meetings, which happen about three to four times per year. Libertarian Party members are welcome to attend.

A proposed agenda is posted here.

One of the most interesting items is the selection of the 2012 convention site. Current cities under consideration are Dallas, Las Vegas, and San Francisco.

Our staff will be quite busy preparing for that meeting this week. Looking ahead, we want to keep doing our best to serve you and improve our effectiveness.

I also want to mention this sale being offered by the LPStuff.com store:

Sincerely,

Wes Benedict
Executive Director
Libertarian National Committee

P.S. If you have not already done so, please join the Libertarian Party. We are the only political party dedicated to free markets, civil liberties, and peace. You can also renew your membership. Or, you can make a contribution separate from membership.
