June 29: An Important Day in Waco
The Libertarian Party of Texas will have a very important day on June 29 at the Waco Hilton.
The party is currently interviewing candidates for executive director. More than 40 candidates have been considered for the position. It is expected that the party's state committee (SLECT) will make a decision on this very important item at the June 29 meeting in Waco.
The critical concern is funding. The party is making progress on its fundraising effort to make the executive director position viable. "Since 2004, we have proven that a capable and effective executive director is an essential component of supporting our candidates, local leaders, membership, and activists," LP Texas Chair Pat Dixon said. "I am confident that the 'LAUNCH 2014' campaign can grow the party and set new records in the 2014 election, if we can close the fund raising gap to hire an executive director on June 29."
Following the business meeting that day, the party will continue its very successful series of evening events. Beginning at 6 PM there will be a debate entitled "Low Tax versus No Tax."
Representing the "Low Tax" side are:
- Steven Bradley, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship at Baylor University. He currently teaches a Social Entrepreneurship & Economic Development class that asks and answers the question “Does capitalism help the poor?”
- Kurt Hildebrand is Chair of the Hays County Libertarian Party. He also served as Program Director for Dionysium, an Alamo Drafthouse event that features monthly debate.
Representing the "No Tax" side are:
- Wes Benedict currently works for the Libertarian Action Super PAC and the Libertarian Booster PAC. He served as Executive Director of the Libertarian National Committee, and before that as Executive Director of the Libertarian Party of Texas.
- John Bush has been broadcasting Rise Up Radio since 2007. He helped to start and grow the following activist and educational groups: Texans for Accountable Government, the Foundation for a Free Society, Operation Defuse, Lone Star SMART, and Indigo Agora.
All this will take place at the Waco Hilton, 113 South University Parks Drive, on Saturday, June 29. The SLECT business meeting will start at 10 AM, the debate will start at 6 PM. Admission is free and open to the public. Visit the LP Texas website or the LP Texas Facebook page for more information.
