GOP tries to remove Indiana Libertarian city office slate

ImageThe Madison County Republican Party is trying to remove a slate of Libertarian Party candidates in the races for the Anderson, Indiana city offices.

There are five libertarians running for the city offices: Rob Jozwiak for Anderson mayor; Tracy Walser for Anderson city clerk; Chris Nealis, city council District 5; Robert Walser, city council, District 6; and Brad Kirby, city council at-large.

The Madison County GOP is saying that the Libertarian candidates were not nominated by convention, according to Indiana law, and should be taken off of the ballot.

According to Indiana LP chair Joe Hauptmann, the process that was used to nominate the candidates has been used by the party for years.

“In Indiana we have learned to live with oppressive election laws and rules. It is when they keep changing the rules as they go that we have a problem”, said Mr. Hauptmann.

The elections for the Anderson city government are on November 3.
