Red Flag

Republicans and Democrats don’t seem to agree on much…

… except that they can run your life better than you can.

Libertarians believe in your right to choose your own means of protection.

Day by day, your rights are being eroded under the careful watch of the two old parties.

Unfortunately, that includes your Constitutionally guaranteed right to own and use firearms to protect yourself from rapists, thieves, murderers and tyrants.

It’s no secret Democrats have long held the belief that guns belong only in the hands of the government, whether it be police, military or federal agents. Now, Republicans — including the President of the United States — are jumping on board with taking away private gun ownership through so-called “Red Flag Laws” that deny due process!

These laws are being championed by politicians on both sides of the aisle for the supposed purpose of keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people. What the laws really do is put your rights in the hands of government officials. America is founded on the idea that we are meant to be free, and the government cannot take away your rights without due process — meaning through the court system. Due process is so important it’s mentioned in TWO different amendments!

The clause in the Fifth Amendment reads:

No person shall … be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.

While the clause in the Fourteenth Amendment says:

…nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.

Remember the list from above: Rapists. Thieves. Murderers. Tyrants.

We can all agree it would be a bad idea to let rapists, thieves and murderers decide their victims’ level of protection. But if the government should one day turn against the people, would we want it left in charge of deciding who is too “dangerous” to own a firearm? Should the government be able to take your guns without convicting you of a crime? Would Sam Adams and the Sons of Liberty been marked with Red Flags?

While Democrats and Republicans fight over the best way to run your life, Libertarians are busy fighting for your right to run your own life, and that includes protecting it.

We affirm the individual right recognized by the Second Amendment to keep and bear arms, and oppose the prosecution of individuals for exercising their rights of self-defense. Private property owners should be free to establish their own conditions regarding the presence of personal defense weapons on their own property. We oppose all laws at any level of government restricting, registering, or monitoring the ownership, manufacture, or transfer of firearms or ammunition.

The Libertarian Party is the only national political party that believes in your unconditional right to protect yourself. We think you can keep your bump stocks. We think there IS no gun show loophole. And we are TIRED of people who CLAIM to be in favor of gun rights collaborating to restrict gun rights.

We’re Not Republicans. We’re Not Democrats. We’re committed to all of your freedoms all of the time.

We are fighting for you.

Will you help us?
