LP Monday Message: 167 potential candidates in just two days!

November 16, 2009

Dear Friend of Liberty,

It was so nice to see 167 people respond within two days to last week's call for candidates. I'll remind you again that expressing interest is an important first step in the process of working with our state and local affiliates to get candidates onto the ballot.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of visiting a banquet hosted by the Libertarian Party of Michigan. David Littman, Senior Economist of the free-market Mackinac Center, gave what sounded to me like a very negative near-term forecast for the Michigan economy. He expressed optimism for the future, but that optimism was based on a hope that people and politicians will realize things are so bad that they have no choice but to start implementing free-market reforms.

I want to re-emphasize that any optimism was based upon other people (not just Libertarians) realizing they have to change. A turnaround is not inevitable. Let's make sure that we Libertarians do everything we can to steer the people and politicians of our country away from oppression and collectivism and and back towards liberty and prosperity.

Running for office is one way to help get the Libertarian message in front of the people and politicians. Having a strong organizational structure to help communicate our message and support our candidates is vital as well.

I've been very impressed that over 80 people have signed up online for monthly pledges since we re-instituted the online option at our website just over a month ago.

I hope you'll consider joining the more than 900 people who currently donate monthly to the Libertarian Party either online or directly. If not, please consider making a generous one-time donation today.

We are currently in our 2010 budget planning process. We need strong results now to be able to plan for a successful 2010. Please show your support by contributing $500 or $100 or whatever you can to help prepare the Libertarian Party for a strong positive impact in 2010.

Sincerely,
Wes Benedict
Executive Director
Libertarian National Committee
