Convention Theme Contest WINNER!

2020 Libertarian National Convention in Austin, Texas

AND THE WINNER of the 2020 Libertarian National Convention Theme Contest is …

The Libertarian Party!

The 2020 Pay-to-Play Libertarian National Convention Theme Contest started with 58 unique themes. After multiple elimination rounds, we have a final theme after bringing in a total of $24,007 toward convention expenses!

Our 2020 Libertarian National Convention theme: TANSTAAFL

“TANSTAAFL” is the acronym for “There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch,” popularized by Robert Heinlein and Milton Friedman. It was the official theme of the Libertarian Party for its first eight years. Nothing — be it a lunch, a road, or a wall — is ever free, especially when government is involved. There are always obvious and hidden costs for everyone, including the recipients.

This theme is just as relevant now as it was 50 years ago. Governments continue to promise “free stuff” at the expense of your liberty.

Thank you to the hundreds of generous donors who participated in this contest. It’s so important to have generous benefactors because There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch — or a free convention.

We want to give special thanks to one individual who helped make this contest an incredible success. Richard Fast, an economics graduate student and LP Alabama’s “Activist of the Year,” led by example. Richard dug deep and sacrificed to support something important to him — so much that he surpassed the “Beacon of Liberty” level of membership. Ultimately, his preferred theme lost, but he got everyone talking about the convention and helped boost the finances of the Libertarian Party. Richard shows the type of dedication that the party needs to achieve liberty in our lifetime. Richard’s a winner, even if his theme was not (this time).

Can’t wait for convention? Neither can we! Get your Gold package starting next week at the lowest cost it will ever be offered, because … TANSTAAFL.

And if you can’t wait, you can join the Welcoming Committee right now.
