LP welcomes “Taxpayers’ Watchdog”

Over the last year, the Libertarian Party has welcomed a series of elected officials who have switched their party affiliation to Libertarian.

Today, the Libertarian Party welcomes a town councilor from Cicero, N.Y. Mike Becallo is known as the “Taxpayers’ Watchdog” and is switching his party affiliation to Libertarian today.

The Libertarian Party of Onodaga County, where Becallo resides and serves, credits him as being a champion of liberty since he was first elected in 2014. “We are extremely excited about Mike Becallo and the Libertarian Party joining forces,” said Shawn Hannon, chair of the Onondaga County Libertarian Party. “Together we are hoping to make real change in how government works for the people.”

“In my time in office, I have met many disenfranchised voters who are fed up with the political system,” Becallo said. “I want to give them another option. I hope this motivates additional elected officials with similar views to join the growing liberty movement.”

Brian Waddell, vice chair of the Libertarian Party of New York, said, “We’re glad that Mike has chosen to make a public statement of his dedication to liberty by switching his enrollment to Libertarian. We look forward to working with him to continue fighting for every individual in Onondaga County and the entire state of New York.”

Nicholas Sarwark, chair of the national Libertarian Party said, “We proudly welcome Mike Becallo and others like him, from all backgrounds, who value liberty and seek to reduce government interference into people’s lives.”

A press conference will be held Thursday, June 29, at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Syracuse, and will be live-streamed on LP New York’s Facebook page.
