Kash Jackson, the 2018 Libertarian candidate for governor of Illinois, speaking at a candidates’ forum on Sept. 20, 2018 (NBC Chicago Channel 5 and Telemundo)

Libertarian candidate Grayson “Kash” Jackson participated in a televised forum with his three Illinois gubernatorial rivals: incumbent Republican Bruce Rauner, Democrat J.B. Pritzker, and William “Sam” McCann of the Conservative Party.

The moderator and audience members asked the candidates to address such issues as state taxation and spending, migration out of the state, lack of transparency, football player turned protestor Colin Kaepernick, gun control, gerrymandering and ballot access, education, health care, and partisanship.

Jackson was also individually featured in an article at the website of WVIK 90.3 FM (an NPR affiliate), subsequent to the forum. In the wide-ranging interview, he asserted that “legal does not equal moral”; that the state’s “number one issue is our fiscal crisis,” which includes unfunded pension obligations; that if elected, he would work to shift funding of primary education to the local level only; and that “ballot access is atrocious for third parties,” citing as evidence his campaign’s need to collect nearly 50,000 petition signatures to meet the validity requirement of 25,000 voters’ signatures; and much more.

Another debate was planned for Oct. 1, but both Jackson and McCann were being excluded by the nonpartisan League of Women Voters. Click here for the story by Otwell, at WVIK’s website (“Illinois Third Party Candidates Not Included in Upcoming Gov. Debate,” Oct. 1, 2018).
