Libertarian Sundwall Faces Rivals In Times-Union/WMHT Debate

For Immediate Release Wednesday, March 18, 2009

NIVERVILLE, NY — Libertarian special election congressional candidate Eric Sundwall will be included in the debate sponsored by the Albany Times-Union www.timesunion.com and WMHT on Thursday, March 19th at 7:30pm, according to campaign manager Richard Cooper. As of now, Republican candidate James Tedisco will not participate. This Friday, Sundwall will appear on WMHT’s “New York Now” program. Also on Friday, WMHT will make available the debate on their website www.wmht.org .

The following Thursday, March 26th at 7:00pm there will be a “town hall” style debate sponsored by WROW and the League of Women Voters with constituents in the audience at the Holiday Inn Express in Latham.

Cooper continued “However, Channel 13 WNYT has refused to include Eric Sundwall in the debate on Tuesday, March 24th. News director Paul Lewis gave as a reason that they only invited candidates of parties receiving 5 percent or more in the previous election. But such a standard automatically blocks out the new. Ralph Nader, Tom Golisano and Ross Perot could not have been in the debates the first time they ran. Eric Sundwall believes that the people of the 20th Congressional District are entitled to hear alternative views, not just those from the tired old parties. We met the extensive list of requirements from WMHT. We urge WNYT to reconsider and include Eric Sundwall from the Libertarian Party.”
