Ben Backus, who is running for the Gering, Nebraska City Council in Ward 3, will be elected to office on November 8, as his competitor, Jeffrey Allen, recently withdrew from the race.

“He said he wouldn’t have the time to run an effective campaign against me,” said Mr. Backus.

Backus just missed getting elected by 40 votes when he ran for the seat four years ago. He ran for Nebraska Secretary of State in 2014.

“I’m looking forward to bringing smaller government to the city council,” said Mr. Backus.

His term will begin on January 1, and the term lasts for four years. It is a non-partisan seat.
